Two years ago, about this time, I reported that the sport of disc golf (aka Frisbee golf) was being considered by the Llano City Council for installation at Badu Park. The impetus for the course was the Llano Alliance for Drug Intervention’s (LADI) desire to provide a means for kids and adults to have a challenging and fun athletic experience close to the city center which would help with the fight against drugs.
Now, I’m pleased to announce that City Council approved the creation of a 9-hole recreational course on December 7, 2015, and recently, internationally-recognized disc golf course designer, John Houck, and Dee Leekha-Houck, owners of HouckDesign in Austin, have completed the design phase.
The nine holes have all been laid out on the now unused west end of the park. The location of rocks, topography, trees and vegetation, and of course, the Llano River have all been considered to make this a challenging and attractive recreational course placed in a dedicated area which avoids conflicts with other park uses. John Houck describes this course as “probably the prettiest 9-hole course I’ve ever seen, and we very much want to use the course to support LADI’s mission of providing positive recreation for the young people of Llano.
My goal was to design a course that would be fun and challenging for teens, pre-teens, and even adults who have never played disc golf before. We’re hoping it will be an enjoyable introduction to disc golf and something the community can be proud of.” Please help us make this dream a reality. We need to raise $9000, and we are half way there.
All donations are appreciated, but by sponsoring a hole at the $500+ level your name or business will be posted on a tee sign or the founder’s sign. For all donations of $50 or more, you will receive a Polaris driver disc. Tax-deductible donations may be mailed to LADI, P.O. Box 51, Llano, Texas 78643. For information call 325-248-5392.
