State Park Celebrates Lyndon B. Johnson’s Birthday
Fri, August 21, 2015 10:57 AM

On August 27, 2015 the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Park will celebrate what would have been LBJ’s 107th birthday. National Park Tours of the Texas White House will be free to the public and begin at 10:00 a.m. The traditional wreath will be laid at the President’s grave for his birthday. Visitors may stop by the cemetery to pay their respects. The State Park and National Parks will host several activities that day in honor of the president’s birthday.

At the LBJ State Park Visitor’s Center, visitors can enjoy the patriotic decorations and be sure to bring a camera to take part in the LBJ photo op. “The Hill Country-LBJ’s Texas” movie will be showing on the half hour throughout the day and the Exhibit Hall will be open from 8am until 5pm. The Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm will have activities including old time games of marbles, tops, jacks, stick horse races, and more. These are all fun family activities, so pack a picnic basket and plan on spending the day in the parks and enjoy celebrating with park interpreters, many historical sites, activities, and a legacy of our nation’s 36th president. While touring through the buildings, you are sure to get a settler’s understanding of life in the Texas Hill Country and why the President loved coming home.

Don’t forget to stop by the Park Store and browse the selection of LBJ unique products, one of a kind hand made items from the Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm, and much more. LBJ State Park & Historic Site is located 2 miles east of Stonewall on U.S. 290. Park facility hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily, while the trails are open to 10:00 p.m.
