New Exhibit Moving Into Museum
Thu, January 7, 2016 8:51 PM

Beginning January 22, 2016, the Llano County Historical Museum, along with sponsorship by Llano National Bank, will present “Vaquero: Genesis of the Texas Cowboy”, a traveling exhibition created by the Witliff Collections at the Alkek Library, Texas State University-San Marcos. This exhibit is presented in partnership with Humanities Texas, the state affiliate for the National Endowment for the Humanities, and made possible in part by a We the People grant.

Featured in this exhibit is a collection of photographs taken by Bill Wittliff in the early 1970’s on a ranch in northern Mexico. There he photographed vaqueros as they worked cattle and went about their daily chores. Wittliff captured a way of life that now exists only in memory and in the photographs included in this exhibition.

Also of interest to the public will be a display of saddles, boots and spurs from area ranchers, featuring the work of local saddlemakers, who played a vital role in Llano’s ranching heritage.

The Llano County Historical Museum, along with sponsor Llano National Bank, is proud to bring this event to the Llano area. An Open House will be held on January 22, 2016, and refreshments will be provided. The exhibition will be on display for four weeks. The Llano County Historical Museum is located at 310 Bessemer, on the banks of the Llano River, just north of the Roy B. Inks Bridge. For more information, visit the museum on the web at llanomuseum.org and on Facebook.
