Sculpture on Main was originally created in 2006 to bring people to Marble Falls in the fall. “It was designed as a tourist attraction, and what I’ve learned regarding tourism, is when you place great amenities in your city, you not only attract tourists, but you benefit the residents,” said Bill Rives, current Chair of the HLCA. “Yes, Sculpture on Main brings in people from neighboring communities who hear about it and want to come experience the attraction, but people who work in downtown Marble Falls and live nearby benefit from the beauty of the art 365, so I think it’s a great asset.”
Five new pieces are being added to the approximate dozen that will be kept on display on Main Street for the next two years. “We are fortunate to have so many talented artists in the area. And since the first Sculpture on Main, a number of communities within the Hill Country have begun sculpture shows,” said Rives.
A new aspect of Sculpture on Main is Street Fest, which is a sculpture art show put on by Highland Lakes Creative Arts, that will take place under a large tent on Friday, November 8, from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 9, from 10:00 – 5:00 p.m. in downtown Marble Falls. Approximately one dozen Texas Society of Sculptors (TSOS) artists will display their sculptures while art lovers gather in admiration of the pieces and enjoy refreshments while they appreciate the art community that is unique to Marble Falls.
Street Fest will offer live music both days, and on Friday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., award-winning singer-songwriter Pauline Reese will perform. “She’s sung with Willie Nelson and countless other Nashville/Austin music luminaries and has written some truly amazing songs,” said Rives. “She can play guitar wonderfully to go with her greatest instrument, which is her voice. Last year the weather was gray and windy, but she hit the notes just as if it were sunny and 75!”
The event will feature beverages from Save the World Brewery and Fall Creek Vineyards and if the weather turns chilly, a hot spice wine will be served.
“These sculptors are expressing what’s inside of them in the way they view the world for everyone else to see, and that takes a certain amount of courage, and of course, a great amount of talent as well,” said Rives. “What I enjoy most about Street Fest is the combination of great art and artists, great music and musicians, and our scenic downtown. Throw in a glass of wine and I'm blissed out!”
With Street Fest, HLCA hopes to raise awareness to residents and visitors alike to Sculpture on Main and the beautiful pieces on display 24/7, in downtown Marble Falls. “HCLA wants to help develop the image of Marble Falls as an ‘art oasis’ in the Texas Hill Country,” added Rives. “In a few years our downtown will be the envy of many communities in Central Texas. I'm confident that the public display of art will be an integral part of any new plans for the City.”
Street Fest is open to the public at no charge and is a family friendly environment, welcome to all walks of life. “It’s great to see youngsters come out with their families to see what kind of creations can be made from rock, steel and other materials. It just takes talent and imagination. We hope these works of art will inspire young artists.”
