Spring Break at Pioneer Museum, Come for the History! Stay for the Hospitality
Tue, February 17, 2015 3:46 PM

Come sample a biscuit cooked over an open camp fire, make a corn husk doll or "knot" doll, make a rope, stop at the forge to observe the blacksmiths at work. These are some of the activities being planned for Spring Break at the Pioneer Museum. Spring Break at the Pioneer Museum starts on Saturday, March 7 and continues Monday through Saturday the 9th – 14th, with a wide variety of hands-on activities, demonstrations and reenactments each day. There will be something for all ages to enjoy.

Stepping back in time is fun, and makes history come alive. Some of the activities planned include making rope, quilting, spinning and hammering at the forge. There will also be re-enactors on site to help us experience the days of Mountain Men, Buffalo Soldiers, Red Rovers, and more.

Visitors can also experience what attending class was like in a one room schoolhouse, eat biscuits from an authentic chuck wagon and share in storytelling, and folk singing. The museum's regular exhibits and buildings will be open for viewing and visitors will have the opportunity to chat with our interpreters, who all have wonderful stories of the past to tell.

Admission to the daytime Spring Break activities is the regular Pioneer Museum admission fee of $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 6-17. Those five and under will receive free admission. Pioneer Museum is located at 325 West Main Street and parking is free. The exact schedule of events varies by day, you are welcome to call ahead to inquire about daily activities at 990-8441. The museum gift shop will also be open which features a wide selection of books, gifts and collectibles as well as children's toys from days gone by. Hours of activities will be 10:00 A. M. – 5:00 P. M. each day. The museum gift shop is closed on Sunday, March 8, 2015.
