Messina Inn is the place.
It’s upscale and quaint; out in the country but near the charming village of Wimberley.
It’s an Italian-inspired creekside inn that also hosts weddings, bridal or baby showers, weekend guests, family reunions, corporate retreats, picnics and just about anything else you could want.
Enjoy spacious pavilions or cozy rooms at Messina Inn. Swim in the pool. Enjoy the rippling creek that flows all around. Relax under the shade of magnolia, maple, oak, mountain laurel and pecan trees. Enjoy the deer and squirrels and birds roaming the grounds. An experience here is sort of like listening to bluegrass versions of Mozart music.
This 13-acre haven is not part of some giant corporate franchise. It’s a family-owned operation that began four years ago.
“I originally came to Wimberley from Arlington and opened a vacation rental,” said Cherri Maley, the manager and wedding coordinator of Messina Inn. “Then I went to school to learn about wedding coordinating and hospitality and wanted something to combine both.”
She searched for the right property and found this almost hidden spot along Cypress Creek between Wimberley and Woodcreek.
“It was perfect,” she said with a big smile. “And three generations of our family has their hands in it.”
Among those family members are Maley’s aunt, Cherri Burrows, and mother, Candace Gotcher. Cherri’s husband, Jason, does catering and their 13-year-old son, Jacob, also helps out. Grandmother Sibyl Burrows did the design and supervised the building and remodeling. Father Don did all the cabinetry.
Messina Inn opened on Memorial Day 2017 on the 13 acres with about 800 feet along Cypress Creek.
Sibyl Burrows loves Italian architecture. Since Messina, Italy, is along the Strait of Messina, a narrow water channel, and Messina Inn is along a creek, the name for inn was born along with the names of its suites – La Amore, La Casstte, La Gotta, La Lucia, La Luna, La Milan, La Siena and La Verona.
While all are luxurious, each is different. Some rooms have a sleeper sofa, some have a dining area, some have living rooms, and some have fireplaces. You might find a jetted tub in the bathroom.
One of the main services the Messina Inn provides is as a wedding venue, but it offers many options from an indoor chandelier-lit pavilion to outdoor locations.
“And brides have a wide variety of places for photographs,” Maley said. “They have the hills, the trees, the creek, the lawn by the water.”
Weddings at Messina Inn are not limited to a few hours on that special day. Family and friends can stay for the entire weekend thanks to the inn’s private rooms and suites.
The inn offers wedding rehearsal dinners and wedding receptions with catering for as many as 100 guests. Patrons get to choose from a wide variety of decors.
Messina Inn is not just a wedding venue. It’s a boutique hotel with private rooms and suites.
Have a social gathering with friends or family. Have a bridal or baby shower. Have a corporate retreat, a wellness retreat, meetings, yoga, massages, birthday parties, picnics, or family reunions.
The suites and cottages host up to 32 guests who may enjoy the pool, a sauna, hot tubs, outdoor grills, two courtyards and creek-side verandas. And breakfast is served to all guests.
“We’re close to town and offer a luxurious and comfortable feeling in a historic setting,” Maley said.
Perhaps the best thing the Messina Inn offers is serenity and peace.
