and a few tasting room tips
Times have never looked brighter for the Texas Wine Industry, and the Hill Country is without a doubt the hub of the state’s wine tourism. From wineries to tasting rooms, retail wine shops to Texas wine centered restaurants… now is exactly the right time to be proud, to be pumped about the current state of the industry.
NOTE: Although this event was not held in 2020, many of the vendors mentioned do still offer lavender products in-store and online. Here's to 2021! Blanco offers its visitors historic buildings, quaint gifts, and antique shops, and a front-row seat along the Spring wildflower trail. The Blanco River winds through the edge of town, providing a scenic tourist attraction as well as the site of Blanco State Park, which is inside the city limits and only a short walk from the courthouse square.
Regarding Antiques, This is Definitely the Real Deal!
One of our favorite Texas Hill Country pastimes is antiquing. It seems like each small town encountered has its share of small enterprises stocked with the items that our forebears felt were essential and that we today, find fascinating and often, collectable as well. The pursuit can be a fun and rewarding exercise resulting in a surprise acquisition or two. For the novice or even the veteran seeker however, finding that “special something” can be a somewhat uncertain undertaking if car ...
Repurposed Hospital Houses
These are the words of commitment one first sees entering Kimble County’s new Historical Museum. Efficiently and expertly designed and housed in the county’s former hospital built in 1958, the museum officially opened in March, 2019. Tracing the county’s creation from Bexar County in 1858 and organization in 1876, the 12,000-sq.ft.
Want to take a trip back in time? Want to stop the cattle rustlers? Want to star in a Western movie? You can do it every weekend right here in the Hill Country. The good guys with guns in their hands may be you or your family and friends. The bad guys are steel targets.
To help maintain their good looks and vitality, TV and movie celebrities have come up with workout routines that promise to burn calories, tone muscles and presumably slow the aging process. They’ll be happy to share their “secrets” with you…for a price. I’m certainly no celebrity, but as a ranch resident of the Texas Hill Country with its ubiquitous, evergreen ashe juniper (or mountain cedar), I myself have developed The Kickin’-Ashe Workout that delivers heart-pumpin’, muscl ...
Premier Historic Guesthouse in Mason, TX
When Shannon Worrell inherited property in Mason, it wasn’t exactly a dream come true. Not at the time – far from it. The location was great, within easy walking distance of the picturesque, vibrant town square and bordered by Comanche Creek. But a dilapidated building, the one-time Ana Lee Nursing Home, sprawled over 10,000 square feet, literally piled with trash and debris, and in such a sorry state that it was going to be condemned by the City. After Miss Lee retired in the 1980s, Wo ...
Return with us now to those hippie days of yesteryear. From out of the past comes the sort of clothing that grabs your attention with colors and designs that seem more random and unique than you could ever imagine. Tie-dye clothing amazes us again. The Hill Country Mistress of Tie-Dye is Robin Wood of Wimberley who has been creating this distinctive clothing loveliness for more than 20 years now. “I always enjoyed wearing tie-dye clothing,” she recalls. In her travels Robin attended ...

“You know something,” mused Graham Avery. “The theatre is like sausage. You'll enjoy it. You’ll like it. You may even love it. But you don’t really want to know how it’s made!” I was chatting with the retired ophthalmologist who’s a regular performer at Hill Country Community Theatre (HCCT). It was a Wednesday evening and we were backstage waiting to begin Moon Over Buffalo.
