The quaint Texas Hill Country town of Bertram is preparing itself for this year’s annual Labor Day event, their 40th Annual Oatmeal Festival. The festival begins Friday, Sept. 1, at 5:03 pm in the nearby town of Oatmeal, and continues all day Saturday in Bertram.
There will be many events to enjoy on Saturday, Sept. 2, starting at 8:03 am; ending with the a “sundown dance” with a live band under the stars at 8:03 pm. COME JOIN US … ENJOY!! Some of this year’s activities will include a beauty pageant, guided trail-ride, a 3.3-mile fun run, baking competition, pet parade, an Oatmeal Grand Parade, live music during the day, children’s games and water activities, and street dancing to top off the evening.

Several of Bertram’s downtown streets will be closed to accommodate runners, skits, parades, music, vendors, games, and other fun and unusual activities. These make up the annual Oatmeal Festival. All of this, in addition to the growing number of out of town guests that the event attracts, is expected to fill downtown Bertram. Local residents support this event, because this two-day party has a truly noble purpose: Festival funds raised go to support scholarship opportunities for high school students, and to support other activities that help strengthen local community. The amount raised has increased since the inception of this annual program. Thank you to all participants for your support!
Many local businesses actively support the mission of this festival through sponsorship and participation. They consider it a great opportunity to reinvest in their community. Additionally, the air-conditioned Historic Globe Theater has a full day of events planned. Organizers insist that this annual festival would not be possible without full community involvement, vendors, sponsors and committed volunteers, who welcome such support. There some old-time favorites, new activities, water events, a car show, and surprises.
This long-lasting local tradition could not have carried on successfully for 40 years without continued efforts of a dedicated group of volunteers that put it all together. They make up a small not-for-profit that works hard year ’round, just to make this weekend festival the best that it can possibly be. To that end, they are always looking for help. Whether it’s to volunteer, just participate in events, become a vendor, or sponsor, or to donate. Contact the Oatmeal Festival Bowl of Directors to learn how to be a part of each event.
