Tip your hat, hold the door, and a whole lot more. “There is something for everyone in Burnet. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy camping and hiking at Inks Lake State Park, the adventure and hills of Reveille Peak Ranch, Spider Mountain Bike Park, and the stunning views at Canyon of the Eagles. History lovers can enjoy the Hill Country Motorcycle Museum, Fort Croghan, and the Highland Lakes Commemorative Air Force Museum. In addition to the tourist attractions, Burnet is a small but growing town filled with friendly people. Those that live here are proud to call Burnet home. (Allison McKee, Executive Director Burnet Chamber of Commerce)”

Burnet, Bluebonnet capital of Texas, the seat of Burnet County located in the Highland Lakes area, was settled in the 1800s. In the early 19th century, although the local Tonkawa and Lipan Apache were friendly, the Comanche frequently raided. Fort Croghan was established in 1849, part of a series of four forts built for settler’s protection. In 1853 the military abandoned Fort Croghan when the area population had grown to stand on its own. Burnet continued to grow in 1882 with the arrival of the Austin and Northwestern Railroad. Burnet is now home to Burnet Municipal Airport, Kate Craddock Field, Seton Hospital, Scott and White Clinic, Burnet County Fairgrounds, National Fish Hatchery, Entegris, HEB, and Burnet Independent schools.

“Our staff and students, along with a pinch of our secret ingredient of spirit, pride, and honor, are what make Burnet CISD such an outstanding school district! We pride ourselves on our small-town atmosphere and world-class educational opportunities. Whether it is the award-winning band program, the nationally recognized culinary arts program, playoff-bound sports teams, state championship ag program, or the 47 hours of dual credit offered through Angelo State University at Burnet High School, Burnet CISD is committed to being the best in class and offering students a variety of academic and extracurricular choices toward their personal and career interests.

We are committed to CRAFTING the FUTURE with students, and that future is as unique as each of our students. For some that means preparing them for college or a trade school, while for others it means preparing them to earn a certification or enter the workforce with demonstrable skills. All of that is wrapped-up in our vision statement which was developed by staff, students, parents, and community members: ‘Burnet Consolidated ISD will craft an inspiring future for each student that embodies spirit, pride, and honor.’ (Keith McBurnett, BCISD Superintendent)”

Cheering on the Bulldogs or Lady Dawgs can work up an appetite. Choices abound to satiate a growling stomach, Chinese, Thai, Steak, Mexican, comfort food, burgers- with or without live music for entertainment. Burnet offers both urban convenience and small-town charm: one can order a health shake from Burnet Nutrition with Door Dash or utilize the horse hitching posts at Bill’s Burgers.

Whether your nighttime entertainment preference is stargazing in the wide-open or outdoor concerts at the Double Eagle; whether you prefer a P-40 or full-size Thomas the Train; whether you prefer trout or bass fishing; whether you prefer paintbrushes or bluebonnets, Burnet’s charm and amenities will captivate you. Come on up, over, or down. Come visit or stay a while.
