Elevating the spirit of Christmas
The wheelchair ramp was 51 feet from the level of the house floor to the ground, including turning and rest platforms. The Johnson City ramp-building crew was able to design the structure so it came in under budget, pleasing Texas Adult Protective Services, which paid for the materials. These volunteer builders are, from left, Jim Aldridge, John Penrod, Howard Lawson, and Dave Hamm.

His wife had just returned from a long stay in the hospital and rehab, and could no longer get up and down the steps to their house on her own.  In fact, he was taking it pretty slowly these days, himself.  A ramp to replace their steps was what they needed, but that was waaayyy out of his budget.
