JCISD hosted our 2023 Summer Youth Track Camp last week. JC (incoming) Students K-6 Grades attended and had 20 youth register. "We met last Tuesday and Thursday, introducing youth to the sport of Track Field," said Juaquin Rodriguez, JC LBJ Cross Country Coach. "The program sought to model Sportsmanship, Character Traits of being a Good Teammate, and Competition.
With a week of rest and a showy 4-1 non-district performance the Johnson City Eagles are ready to take on the Lions from Ozona to open District 14-2A D1 competition this Friday night at Eagle Field. The Eagles outscored their opponents 124-46 in their four wins with the lone setback a 46-7 loss at Thrall.
The Lady Eagles earned themselves a little breathing room in the race for the District Championship with a four set road win at Harper Friday night. The first meeting of the two teams was a nail-biting five set affair that ended with the host Lady Eagles eking out a 15-11 victory in the final set.
Against a tough field of 1A-4A runners the Johnson City Lady Eagles Kept all but the Champions from St. Michaels at bay finishing runner-up as a team in the Leo Manzano Invitational in Marble Falls on Saturday. Freshman Jackie Earley once again paced the Lady Eagles finishing second with a time of 12:59.5 on the 2-mile course behind leader Camille Terracina of St.
The 3-1/2-hour trip south did not produce a road-weary Eagle team as they shook off any ill effects of the mileage by shaking down the Freer Buckaroos 34-19 on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Eagles closed out the non-district portion of the 2021 season with a 4-1 record. Cade Boyer amassed 287 yards on 158 yards passing with two touchdowns and 129 yards rushing with one touchdown.
The LBJ Middle School Eagles lost at Austin-Regents School 19-13 on Thursday. The two teams ended the first three quarters deadlocked (0-0, 6-6, 13-13), but the Knights got the last word scoring in the fourth and holding on for the win. “These guys continue to improve every week,” according to Coach Ryan Knostman. For the fourth match in a row the Lady Eagles blanked a District 29-2A opponent winning in straight sets on Friday at Junction. The Lady Eagles played an incredibly fast paced game to raise their record to 5-0 in district play. Anna Craig set the tone for the match with a six point service run and the Lady Eagles took the first set 25-10.
The Eagle and Lady Eagle Cross Country teams took a peek at the course that will host the top runners from across the State in November when they raced in the Round Rock McNeil Invitational last weekend at Old Settlers Park. On Friday, Jackie Earley paced the Lady Eagles with an 8th place finish and medal-winning time of 13.21 in the 1A-3A Varsity Girls’ 2-Mile.
The Thrall Tigers delivered a wake-up call to the Johnson City Eagles racking up 46 points and delivering the visiting JC squad their first loss of the 2021 season on Friday night. The Eagle defense had a difficult time containing Senior Quarterback Colter Hill who was 10 of 14 in pass completions for a total of 218 yards and rushed for an additional 123 yards.
The LBJHS Cross Country teams traveled to Corpus Christi Saturday for a trial run on the UIL Region IV-2A Championship course. The Islander Invitational boasted eight divisions with 200-350 competitors in each Varsity division for the largest field the Eagles and Lady Eagles have faced in 2021. Freshman Jackie Earley placed fourteenth overall in the Medium/Small School Varsity Girls’ 2-Mile which included runners from 3A and below.
