What began over a quarter of a century ago as the brainstorm of Llano residents and a group of hunters from Beaumont has grown into quite the Cajun festival – and benefits local charities, too.
The Llano Crawfish Open returns for its 31st year April 16-17 at Robinson Park, about two miles west of Llano on FM 152, and features plenty of crawfish and Cajun food, live music, a golf tournament, a motorcycle run, arts, crafts and much more, in what is a little fun for everyone.

Hill Country peach orchards have seen a few challenging winters these last years, and like every season, the harvest depends on the rainfall and cold temperatures of the dormant months for a healthy, productive summer. But this year’s crop will be a unique one due to an unprecedented week-long winter wave of snow, ice and bitter-cold winds.

The Goldthwaite State Championship BBQ and Goat Cook-off, sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbecue Society, provides two days of fun, entertainment and food on April 23rd and 24th. While some contestents are grilling goats, others are competing for prizes showing off their goat’s best outfits.

The Home Tour is back! The 33rd Annual Hill Country Home Tour gets underway April 16 & 17 with four outstanding homes. Featured this year are Ken & Yvette Stranges’ Spoon Mountain Glamping property that showboats South African safari tents with all the luxuries. Intended as commercial vacation rentals, the three tents are sited beneath a grove of oaks and back up to Spoon Mountain.
Celebrate Spring and the end of the school year at Mayfest, May 5th-8th, in Marble Falls’ Historic Johnson Park. The four-day party starts on Wednesday with carnival rides, games, and those festival food favorites going on till Saturday. Friday brings Tejano Night with a DJ playing all of the LatinX hits with a beer and wine available for purchase.
If polka-dots had memories, they would certainly owe a special thanks to Yayoi Kusama for their popularity.
