In 1821, Stephen F. Austin, known as the “Father of Texas,” made a contract to bring 300 families to the Spanish province, which now is Texas. By 1823, probably more than 600 to 700 people were in Texas, hardy colonists from the various portions of the United States at that time, who settled not far from the Gulf of Mexico. There was no regular army to protect them, so Austin called the citizens together and organized a group to provide the needed protection.

Johnson City has become quite the place to be on the weekends! Great restaurants, live music, breweries, and more are drawing people to the boyhood home of the late President Lyndon B Johnson. Now that things have returned somewhat to normal, visitors are returning to this quaint little community, and they are exploring all of the wonderful shops and storefronts that Johnson City has to offer. One of the newest is Old Annex Market.
The Marble Falls Chamber of Commerce proudly announces the return of the Lakefest Boat Races held on August 7th & 8th after a 3-year long hiatus. In partnership with the Southern Drag Boat Association, Lakefest provides spectators the rush of adrenalin as drag boats race along Lake Marble Falls at 200 MPH. To start off the competition, visitors and locals will have free entry to the ever favorite “Show & Shine” where they will get an insider look at the extreme sport.
