A nationally registered historic building opened its doors for business in May of 2018 in Llano, Texas. The building’s intriguing history contributed to the unique, Texas-inspired restaurant, Badu 1891. The building was constructed as a bank in 1891 when Llano’s population was booming at 14,000. At the time, the City of Llano was deemed to be the “second Pittsburgh” for mineral mining.
What began over a quarter of a century ago as the brainstorm of Llano residents and a group of hunters from Beaumont has grown into quite the Cajun festival – and benefits local charities, too. The Llano Crawfish Open returns for its 30th year April 26-27 at Robinson Park, about two miles west of Llano on FM 152, and features plenty of crawfish and Cajun food, live music, a golf tournament, a motorcycle run, arts, crafts and much more, in what is a little fun for everyone. Old Town Tomball, Texas Historical Train Depot Plaza
Beginning with one Oomph band on a flatbed trailer eighteen years ago the festival has become an annual tradition in Tomball and one of the best music/street festivals in Texas. Every spring festivalgoers break out their Lederhosen and Dirndls “Go German” for the area’s largest festival celebrating the heritage of the original German families that settled this area beginning in about 1840.

Badu 1891’s owners, Jeff Nash and Vicki Roberts, fell in love with the nationally registered historic Badu building in Llano, Texas. After renovations, they opened it as a restaurant in May of 2018. On the second floor of Badu 1891 hangs a framed photograph from the 1900s. The photo shows a cattle drive proceeding down a dirt road directly in front of the building.
