Johnson City Christian Food Pantry

The Food Pantry is now located inside the new Blanco County Community Resource Center at 206 S US Highway 281. The Pantry will be open each Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon, and on the 4th Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon. For more information, email [email protected].

3rd Annual Valentine Gala

This fundraiser for the Johnson City Community Education Foundation Scholarship Fund will be held on February 8 beginning at 6 p.m. Dinner and a dance are planned at the Blanco County Show Barn. Tickets are available at LBJ High School office, Whittington’s Store, Town and Country Realty, or by calling Cynthia Keene at (830) 868-4564.

Adult STEM Book Club

The Johnson City Library will host this session, for which the topic is “Motion.” The book will be The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, and a light supper will be provided. The session begins at 6 p.m. on February 11.

Fiber Arts

The Library will host a friendly group, and invites anyone with an interest in knitting to crocheting to join at 7 p.m. on February 11.

Engineering Day at the Science Mill

Learn tricks of the trade, basic principles of engineering and what a day in the life of a civil engineer actually looks like. Engineering Day activities are free with admission to the Science Mill. Engineering Day activities will run 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on February 15. The first 100 guests will be free, sponsored by ASCE. For more info contact [email protected].

Strategic Growth Public Meeting

CAPCOG is leading a federally funded update to the Blanco County Transportation and Economic Development Plan. This is a long range plan capturing both growth as well as strategic opportunities to improve the quality of life of county residents. CAPCOG will be holding a public meeting for the project on Tuesday, February 18, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the County Annex.

Civil War Roundtable

The group will meet at the Library on February 25 at 7 p.m.

Ribbon Cutting

The Johnson City Chamber of Commerce will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Historic Pearl at the corner of Nugent Avenue and Pecan St. on February 20 at 5 p.m.

12th Annual Writer’s Conference

The Library will host this annual event on February 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guest writers Christopher Brown, Donna Johnson, and Lowell Mick White will be speaking to the group. The Library will screen “Harriet” on February 27 at 5:30 p.m.

Blanco County 4-H and FFA Youth Council Annual Meeting

The meeting will be at the Blanco County Show barn in Johnson City. Agenda items are: review of the rules, policy changes and suggestions for improvements in the Youth Show; and election of directors with expiring terms. You must be a paid member by February 26 to run as a Director and vote. Contact Keitha Johnson at (830) 833-4138 or at [email protected] for more information.

Cold Ones for Conservation

On February 8, Real Are Brewing Company will host a special event in partnership with Hill Country Alliance and Blanco County Friends of the Night Sky. $1 of each pint sold of the OG Full Moon Pale Rye Ale will benefit the Hill Country Alliance. The event will start at 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at 231 San Saba Ct., Blanco TX.

Indie Night in Blanco

Die Kunstler von Fredericksburg

The next meeting of Die Kunstler von Fredericksburg (DK) will be held on February 6, 2020. The meeting will take place in the HEB Community Room of the Texas Tech/Hill Country University Center. The doors will open at 6 p.m. with the meeting and artist presentation/demo to begin at 6:30 p.m. Meetings are open to the public. The guest artist for February will be Layne Johnson, a noted oil painter dedicated to the light which illuminates the Texas skies and landscapes.

San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo

Opening Day will be February 6. Parking is free from noon to 2 p.m. Get a free ticket to enter on opening day only from the Record Courier or the Johnson City Chamber of Commerce.

Encountering RED

On February 7, Studio Massaro will open a new art show by Catherine Massaro. Massaro previously had a gallery in Johnson City. The studio is now located at 613 W. Main St. in Fredericksburg.

Dinner Tonight Healthy Cooking School

The community is invited to attend this series of cooking schools, presented by Hill Country Memorial in partnership with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. The dates are Feb. 13, 18, 19 and 27, and the time and place varies. What is an Understory?

The Fredericksburg Native Plant Society invites the public to attend a discussion of one of the Hill Country’s disappearing habitats. Answers and advice will be provided at the group meeting on February 25 at the Memorial Presbyterian Church on 601 N. Milam St in Fredericksburg. Light refreshments will be served at 6:30 p.m, with the meeting starting at 7 p.m.

Beekeeping School

Learn how to produce your own honey and help save the bees by attending the Central Texas Beginning Beekeepers School on Saturday, March 21 in Brenham. The school is open to the public for anyone interested in keeping bees or that wants to learn about bees. 24th Annual Birding Classic

Beginning on April 4 and ending May 15, this tournament is open for team registration, with a deadline of April 1 to do so. The event is open to all Texas residents, and hosted by Texas Parks and Wildlife. For more information, visit tpwd.texas.gov
