AUSTIN, TEXAS — The Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG) Regional Law Enforcement Academy (RLEA) will hold its first exam for prospective peace officer cadets for its 91st and 92nd Basic Peace Officers Courses (BPOC) at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 26 at the CAPCOG offices, 6800 Burleson Road, Building 310 in Austin.

AUSTIN — Requirements in House Bill 3, the sweeping school finance law passed by the Texas Legislature in 2019, require the state to plan for long-term workforce development. On Feb. 13, Gov. Greg Abbott cited HB 3 in assigning the commissioners of three state agencies to identify strategies to meet the state’s future workforce needs through his 2016 Tri-Agency Workforce Initiative.

Four Johnson City youth Basketball teams competing in the Hill County Hoops Factory Youth League in Marble Falls made it to the Championship in their divisions winning two and finishing runner-up in the others.  The players and coaches were honored at the Eagle Varsity game against Gateway on Tuesday. The 3rd & 4th Boys team coached by Katy Odiorne won the Junior Division title while the Girls coached by Anjanette Jackson and Amber Fry were runner-up.
JCISD Board of Trustees held a Public Hearing at 6 p.m. followed by the regular meeting on February 10. Cheryl Louise Harris, 75, of Johnson City, TX went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, February 17, 2020 in Fredericksburg, TX surrounded by her family. She was born on March 27, 1944 in Georgetown, TX to Albert Winston Cox and Martha Louise (McDuffie) Cox. Cheryl grew up in San Marcos, TX where she attended school.
Jerry Wayne Lindeman was born on November 4, 1938 to Wesley Wayne Lindeman and Cornelia Pearl Wagner Lindeman in Blanco, TX.  He graduated from Blanco High School in 1957. On November 23, 1952 he married his high school sweetheart Marie Anna Kneupper. He was blessed with 2 children, Michael and Sharon. My parents were out the evening the call came. The gentleman on the phone identified himself as N. Eldon Tanner, a member of the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He left his phone number and requested that my father call him the next morning to make an appointment. My father was born in Mexico and had become a naturalized citizen of the United States.

Are you a Democrat thinking about voting in the Republican primary? Think again. Texas is not a “red” state. It is a non-voting state. More non-voters lean Democratic. Combine them with actual Democratic voters, and it turns out that Republicans are a minority. How does this minority rule persist? By dividing the majority against itself.

Saturday evening at Miller Creek RV Resort was a very eventful evening. Two fugitives that were running from the Hayes County Sheriff’s Department wrecked their vehicle and ran into the park. Fortunately, the individuals were captured Sunday morning without incident. The residents at Miller Creek wanted to thank all the law enforcement officers that were involved in the search and capture of the fugitives.
