The last day to request a ballot to vote by mail is Friday, October 23rd. This deadline is described in the Texas Election Code with the actual date set by the Texas Secretary of State. The application is available at the Blanco County Election Department website and can be printed out, completed with the voter signature, and mailed to the Blanco County Election Department P.
Blanco County will be holding its countywide household waste collection event on Saturday, Oct. 31. Bring your recyclables to the county drop off location, Blanco County/Waste Connections Transfer Station, at 377 Transfer Road in Johnson City. Think about a volcano emerging from the surface of the ocean and forming a new island, new land. At first there is no life of any kind on the island. Eventually, however, after the lava has cooled, there may be some bacteria and fungi begin to grow on the lava at the edge of the water, and these microorganisms begin a very long, slow process of breaking down the rock.
The Grammy-award winning Los Texmaniacs will be roaring into HSB on Saturday, October 24, at 6 PM. The Cultural Enrichment Society is hosting the band bayside at Quail Point. Max Baca founded Los Texmaniacs in 1997. Baca is a legend on bajo sexto, a twelve-string guitar-like instrument. His nephew, Josh Baca, is a third-generation modern-day accordionist.
Members of the Blanco Masonic Lodge are normally planning for the Ernie R. Davis Jr. Care and Share Luncheon by the middle of October. This year, however, is a different case. Texans receiving unemployment benefits will need to show an active effort to find a job starting Nov. 1. The Texas Workforce Commission suspended the requirement in March as the pandemic started. More than 3.6 million have filed for unemployment relief since then, according to Texas Tribune research.  Workforce Executive Director Ed Serna said the state continues to suffer from the pandemic, “but we’re seeing employment opportunities begin to bounce back in Texas as our economy rest ...
Fourteen members of Boy Scout and Cub Scout Troops 497 of Blanco help dedicate the new flagpole at American Legion Post 352 on Monday, October 19, 2020. The flagpole, donated last year as surplus to the American Legion by Blanco’s Gem of the Hills Community Center, now proudly flies Old Glory as well as the POW/MIA flag, commemorating American Prisoners of War and service personnel who are Missing in Action.

The Mason Punchers came to Eagle Field Friday night intent on keeping a piece of the lead in  District 14-2A and rolled to a 55-6 victory against the Eagles. The loss cut the JC winning streak short as they dropped to 1-1 in District and 2-5 for the season. The Puncher defense shut down the Eagle ground game holding them to 29 total yards rushing.
After cruising through 9 matches in District 27-2A without dropping a set the Varsity Lady Eagles got a wake-up call from the Cornerstone Lady Warriors in a non-district match on Monday that lasted just three sets with a final score that did not reflect the level of play the Lady Eagles proved they are capable of when challenged.

Lydia and Claire White extended their 2020 Cross Country season with top ten finishes in the District 29-2A Championships at San Saba on Monday. Sophomore Lydia battled a strong field to an 8th place finish with a time of 12:58.10 in the 2-mile course. Freshman Claire was close at her heels finishing 9th in 13:03.8.

Father, Grandfather, Son, Husband, Friend; each of us are better off because Dave was a part of our lives. This man with amazing talents, unexpectedly left this earth three days after his 62nd birthday. Dave’s contagious laughter, smile, witty sense of humor, love and ear for great musicians, his true God given gift, will be sorely missed. “I’m hunkering down,” Rebecca told me. I know what she means. My friend, Rebecca, just returned from a road trip she made after a lot of careful consideration. First her mother was sick. Then she fell and broke her hip. Rebecca’s mother is ninety and she did not seem to be getting better.
