The Pearl Hotel in Johnson City was a mighty busy place in the early days. A lot of horse and buggy traffic came through town. Travelers could hardly wait to warm their tired backsides by the Pearl’s fire place and sit on the balcony in the evenings and watch the world go by.

Wreaths Across America aims to do that once again in Blanco County. On Dec. 19 at noon, volunteers will place wreaths on veterans graves in five cemeteries in the county – Blanco Historic Cemetery, Twin Sisters Cemetery, St.
Incumbents carried the day in local and regional elections involving Blanco County.
In the only race for a place on the JCISD school board, Cristol Carbury Corpus defended her Place 7 seat with 1,501 votes over challenger Carlette R. Lewis with 1,295 votes.
In the race for Blanco County Commissioner in Precinct 1, incumbent Tommy Weir won with 77.66 percent of the vote.

In its first report to the Texas Legislature, the Governor’s Broadband Development Council called for the creation of a state broadband plan and a state broadband office. Texas is one of six states without a plan for enhancing broadband access.

AUSTIN— Gas pumps across Texas must prominently display the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) consumer information stickers by Dec. 1, 2020.
The stickers have a Texas shape and include information about the amount of state and federal taxes charged for every gallon of fuel sold, as well as a telephone number and a QR code that consumers can use to file a complaint with TDLR regarding the quality or quantity of fuel that was sold.

The LBJ High School Lady Eagles scored another dominating three-set victory in the UIL Volleyball State Playoffs last Thursday - a 25-14, 25-23, 25-15 pounding of the Sabinal Yellowjackets in the Regional Quarterfinals. Sabinal - winner of District 30 - defeated San Antonio - Stacey and Three Rivers to earn a chance to play Lady Eagles. After a decisive first set victory JC had to battle to the wire in Set 2.
In a battle for the runner-up position in District 14-2A Football the Johnson City Eagles were stopped short of the end zone in a 20-0 loss to the Ozona Lions. The Eagles (4-6; 3-2) struggled with their running game gaining 62 yards (Cade Boyer - 44; Cody Sprouse - 17).

Ronald James “Pete” Liesmann was born on April 27, 1955 in Blanco, Texas in the old courthouse when it was a hospital to Jerome Liesmann and Vera Waugh Liesmann. He married Debbie Schmidt on September 21, 1974 and they made Johnson City their home. At the age of 65 Pete died peacefully in his home surrounded by friends and family on Friday, October 30, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
