John Marshall was born to be a cowboy. While he was a youngster he wanted to be a rodeo performer, riding horseback, and doing tricks. Unfortunately, at local pony riding concession, he discovered he was afraid of horses -- so he bucked that idea and decided on law school instead. A native Houstonian, Marshall graduated from Bellaire High School and proceeded to the University of Texas in Austin for a bachelor’s degree in English and history.
