Congressman Mike Conaway hit on a variety of subjects in a town hall which lasted more than an hour on Monday at the Llano Library.
In an opening statement, the congressman said the tax bill has helped the economy, leading to 4.1 percent growth in GDP (gross domestic product). Companies at first passed those savings on to their employees.
“What you’re seeing now is the reinvestment by those companies into businesses, expanses, productivity and those kinds of things,” he said.

Due to continuing drought conditions and extremely low flows in the Llano River, the City of Llano has moved to Stage 4 of its drought contingency plan as of Tuesday afternoon.
Watering of trees, gardens, shrubs, potted plants, and foundations is permitted on designated days by hand-held hose only. Use of sprinklers is prohibited.

John Marshall was born to be a cowboy. While he was a youngster he wanted to be a rodeo performer, riding horseback, and doing tricks.
Unfortunately, at local pony riding concession, he discovered he was afraid of horses -- so he bucked that idea and decided on law school instead.
A native Houstonian, Marshall graduated from Bellaire High School and proceeded to the University of Texas in Austin for a bachelor’s degree in English and history.
Remembering John L. Kuykendall, the man whose name adorns the most-mentioned building in Llano
The John L. Kuykendall Event Center and Arena hosts a variety of events in Llano throughout the year, from rodeos to various meetings to stock shows and more.
With the number of events it hosts that bring both locals and those from out of town to its doors, it can easily be called the most-mentioned building in Llano.
The facility opened as the Llano Event Center and Arena.
Schenken Genetics sells show pigs, more nationally
Craig Bauman and Dr. Robert Schenken developed a friendship while Bauman worked at Llano National Bank.
That friendship turned into a business partnership three years ago, when the two struck a deal for Bauman to manage Schenken’s ranch.
“The next thing you know, I was doing what I always wanted to do in partnering with him on that deal,” Bauman said.
