With the first of the year, many people's thoughts turn to filing annual income tax returns. The libraries know this because for many years the library has been the place to pick up your tax forms and instruction booklets – at no charge. Well, there are some changes this year from the Internal Revenue Service, and the libraries will be receiving very few forms and NO instruction booklets.
There are options: you can order tax forms direct from IRS to be delivered by mail at 1-800-829-3676 or o ...
"What do you have in common with George Washington and Abraham Lincoln?" That's the question I asked Fred L. Thompson. "We're all surveyors!" And they were all elected to office.
Fred Thompson at 75 years of age is the longest serving elected official of Llano County. "I believe so," he said.
He came here in 1975 and was appointed to fill an unexpired term in "about 1976."
"Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the film is so delightful"....inside the Lantex theater last Friday night for the showing of locally made movies. Especially nice was the free admission and refreshments.
The four films shown were gifts of love – that's actually the root of the word "amateur." Comes from the Latin for "love"

Plink! There, I heard it again, then again; the distinct plink of a metal golf club hitting a ball. What made it remarkable was the timing. It was an hour after dark on Saturday night. I sat by a campfire at Robinson Park by the glass-smooth surface of the Llano River with Boy Scout Troop 301 of Llano.
Looking in the right direction we could see the eerie green glow of golf balls in flight, because the city park is adjacent to the city golf course.

Second semester is now underway and it is definitely way more hectic than the fall. In the fall you have cross country, volleyball, and football. Basketball starts in the middle of the first semester. Well this semester we have golf, basketball, track, baseball, softball, powerlifting, and tennis. We also have so many kids that compete in multiple sports at the same time.
Lajuana Wimberley – Director – Child Nutrition Program
When you think of school cafeterias you think "feed the kids." That is how naïve I was when I walked in the cafeteria many years ago.
The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is a federally assisted meal program that provides lunches to more than 3 million Texas children in school and residential child care institutions.
The NSLP serves nutritious, low-cost or free lunches to students in public and non-profit private schools in Texas.
A hot hand from the line dealt the Llano boys a basketball victory at Lago Vista, January 2, and that success was repeated at home against Brownwood, January 6. The result was a 52-47 decision after being down by five with 4:55 to go.
"Overall it was solid," said head coach Aidan Callahan.
LIBERTY HILL—If the Lord, Himself, had been in this great-looking gymnasium on a cold January day, He would have only been a six-point favorite. The Magnificent Seven would have probably fouled out three and four and begged for mercy. If the Panthers had been a concert orchestra, they could not have withstood the pain of so many bows.
On Tuesday, January 6, at Llano High School, Llano Yellow Jackets fans were given a game that was as entertaining as any have been all year.
The Junior Varsity Jackets pulled out a thriller over the visiting Brownwood Lions that will be talked about for a lifetime, at least for one youngster, Wayne Davis, who was fouled with no time left on the clock.
After trailing for most of the game the JV Lions had battled back to take the lead with two seconds left in the game, 43-42.

On Friday, January 23, in the Llano High School Gymnasium, the Llano Yellow Jackets played host to the Lampasas Badgers in the opening of district play. While this was the objective of the evening, another story was playing out on the court with no fanfare, no announcements and well, just the way he would want it to be happening.
Long time Llano Yellow Jacket sports broadcaster, Art Dlugach, was preparing to share his eight-hundredth radio program with Yellow Jacket fans across the radio airwav ...

I must confess I do have some old-fashioned biases. I would be the first to admit I'm not up to date on the latest fad or trend.
Reflecting on the past year and looking forward to the year before me, I have to take some calculations. To be a well-dressed man today, according to the latest fads and trends I have noticed, I need to throw away my belt and let my trousers drop all the way down to my knees.
Let me go on record as saying, never in a million years will that happen.
Then there is the i ...
Recent press releases on the length of life for men in Iceland took many by surprise.
Conventional wisdom had touted the value of a warm climate in causing one to live longer. Now, it seems, the facts prove that heading for cooler climbs may be a better idea. The average lifespan of a man in Iceland is currently 81.6 years which is the longest in the world, though the current Icelandic eruptions of smoke and ice may temper the enthusiasm of any who had suddenly been motivated to retire there.
