Texas—A Whole Other Country.
The Lone Star State.
So named because it’s a former independent republic.
Unlike any other state.
Six flags have flown over these 268,820 square miles.
Spain.
France.
Mexico.
Republic of Texas.
United States of America.
Then Texas seceded.
And flew the Confederate States of America flag for five years.
Then Texas was readmitted to the Union in 1865.
And Old Glory has flown ever since.
Along with the Lone Star flag.
Many prefer to secede again.

The anticipation of many may be that I will spend this column justifying the need for a City Police Department, and although I still have serious thoughts in that direction, after last week’s City Commission meeting I expect to wait another week or more to be able to cover the issue thoroughly and with good information.

Free Crosses on Church Street...
Odds are, Shrimp Boat Manny’s, on Church Street in Livingston, TX, may be the ultimate oxymoron. Where else, pray tell, can diners scarf down delicious Cajun food whipped up from Southern Louisiana recipes that owners Manny and Nancy Rachal have featured since 1985... then, pick up free crosses on the way out?
The intent is for the sealed cedar crosses--weighing 2.6 pounds each, 42 inches tall and 33 inches across--to be posted in yards or wherever.
I’m enjoying Facebook. However, there are three choices: Like-Comment-Share. I need the one that says “Don’t Like!” They have good recipes, but I forget how to make them. When in doubt resort to “Stouffers!” Too, when someone posts photos and I have no clue as to who these people are!
Save the wails!
As a kid growing up in the Texas Hill Country, I learned to keep a weather eye out for rattlesnakes. Not that there are rattlesnakes everywhere you step, but there are enough that it’s a good idea to pay attention. Because getting bit by a rattlesnake is like being shot.

We're Never Too Old To Learn,,, If We Are Willing
We spend between 12 and 20 years of our lives being educated. Whether it's elementary, junior high, high school, college or graduate school, we put ourselves forward willingly (mostly) to receive instruction and guidance from people who have the facts and the information that we need in order to build our educational lives.
When students are young, their minds are open, and like sponges, they soak up everything they're presented ...
