Declaring Our Independence - Viva Texas! On March 2, 1836, the colonists of Mexican Texas issued a Declaration of Independence from Mexican authority, oversight and oppression. By doing so, they created The Republic of Texas, and cemented their place in the history books. Those early colonists had come from many different places.
