Throughout its 98-year history, The American Legion has sponsored programs to benefit America’s veterans, its active service members, their families and children, and ordinary citizens. The Legion was founded on four pillars: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth. In March, 1919, members of the American Expeditionary Force convened a caucus in Paris to establish a new veterans’ organization.
