On a warm August day in 1955 two naive young people stood before the altar of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason, Texas. Moist hands joined, shining eyes locked intently, the two confidently vowed to "have and to hold" each other "from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part." Sixty five years later death has not parted the two nor has anything else.
