It is the best of trees; it is the worst of trees. Texans have long had a love–hate relationship with Honey Mesquite. In the right form, in the right place, mesquites can be among the most beautiful and useful of trees. They can also be some of the most annoying and troublesome woody vegetation on Texas ranches. Honey Mesquite has a very deep taproot that may extend 100 feet or more below the surface, down to the water table.
