The cold weather and snow this past week have many people wondering how plants and animals survive through the winter. There are several distinct strategies used by the species of Mason County. Species either leave for warmer climates, or else find a way to survive in place. I’ll discuss the first strategy this week, and the second strategy in next week’s column. Some animals survive the winter months simply by avoiding them.
