TORNADO HITS ROUND MOUNTAIN
2 injured in Sunday morning storm
A tornado destroyed more than 11 residences, among other property, early Sunday morning in Round Mountain. Two people were injured, but thankfully no one was killed.

Two people were injured and at least 11 residences were destroyed when a tornado touched down in Round Mountain early Sunday morning.

The tornado touched down along Ranch Road 962, traveled northeast across U.S. Hwy. 281 south of EE Ranch Road, and continued its northeast trek as it left the county, according to a preliminary path of the storm provided by Ben Oakley, Blanco County public information officer. The tornado touched down about at approximately 5:30 a.m., according to a press release from the county, hit two RV parks. The path of the tornado stretched 200 miles wide and six miles long.

“First responders arrived on the scene quickly and began search and rescue efforts, including the extrication of several individuals who were trapped,” the press release said.

The two people who were injured received minor injuries. They were treated by EMS and released. No one was hospitalized due to the storm.

The storm impacted approximately 60 residences, 11 of which were completely destroyed and eight sustained major damage. The initial damage assessment is approximately $1 million.

The Hill Country Chapter of the American Red Cross was on the scene for the majority of the day Sunday. They completed damage assessments and assisted the displaced residents.

In response to the tornado, Blanco County Judge Brett Bray issued a disaster declaration for the county at 8:59 a.m. The county was already under a disaster declaration for the COVID-19 public health emergency.

The following agencies responded to this incident: Round Mountain VFD, Johnson City VFD, North Blanco County EMS, Blanco County ESD 2, Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson City Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Travis County STAR Flight, Blanco County Office of Emergency Management, Blanco County Precinct 3, Blanco County Judge’s Office, American Red Cross, and Pedernales Electric Cooperative.
