For the faithful, Easter is about more than bunnies and chocolate. It’s about recognizing the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made more than 2,000 years ago.
In the church calendar, it is Lent, a time leading up to Easter that is on Sunday, April 12 this year.
“Lent is a time for God’s people to prepare for the Easter celebration,” said Rev.
Eph 5:15-17 “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, (16) Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. (17) Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.” In a similar verse, Paul writes, “Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time” (Col 4:5).
Jesus regularly included in His teaching these words, “If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.” Is it possible that people might be physically able to hear, but spiritually or emotionally unable to hear or to comprehend the Word of God...or even the voice of truth, kindness, and love from those who surround them?
This inability to hear seems to have surfaced recently in our country.
In John 8 Jesus is confront by the Pharisees with a woman caught in the very act of adultery. Interestingly they did not bring the man that must have been with her. They wanted to know if Jesus was going to condone her being stoned to death as mandated by the Law for those who committed such a terrible sin.
Eph 5:1-2 “Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savor.” Here, Paul takes a moment to remind the Ephesians of the “main thing”.
As we begin another school year let’s remember that we are educating future leaders. Early one morning, a mother went in to wake up her son. “Wake up, son. It’s time to go to school!” “But why, Mom? I don’t want to go.” “Give me two reasons why you don’t want to go,” Mom asked.
“I hope you didn’t take it personally, Preacher,” an embarrassed woman said after a church service, “when my husband walked out during your sermon. It wasn’t out of any disrespect to you,” insisted the woman, “Fred has been walking in his sleep ever since he was a child.”
Many attend a religious service every week, but some unfortunately seem to have it scheduled as regular nap time.
All scientists agree there was a gigantic ice age. Creationists and evolutionists disagree on the time. Secular believe it was about 10,000 years ago. Creationists believe is was about 4,500 years ago, around 2,800 B.C.
Ken Ham and Bodie Hodge explain in “”A Flood of Evidence,” how ice accumulates during an ice age occur?
Paul declared in Ephesians 2:8-10, “For it is by grace you have been save, through faith and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to go good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Grace is God’s undeserved love given to us through Christ Jesus.
