Now Connie Barron can add another certification under her belt. Barron is the Active Aging Columnist and she practices what she teaches. Along with being a registered nurse and a personal trainer she also holds instructor certifications in Zumba, Pilates, Thai Chi and now she can active aging movement coach (AAMC) to the list. ...
Juneteenth Celebration: On Saturday, June 22, residence and guests of Blanco County gathered at Peyton Colony schoolhouse grounds to celebrate. Juneteenth, Emancipation Day in Texas. On June 19, 1865 Union Major General Gordon Granger read General Order #3 to the people of Galveston: “The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free.
CKC Farms, a family-owned Blanco micro dairy, has been producing goat cheese for 15 years that is distributed throughout the state. Founder Chrissy (Omo) Grundy and her brothers Kenny and Connor form the “CKC” is not only the name of the business but in day-to-day operations. As a Blanco High School FFA student, Chrissy (Omo) Grundy raised two meat goats to show in the county Stock Show but says she didn’t realize that Ozzie and Cosmos were being raised for their meat.
The mustang horse is America’s famous wild horse, descended from Colonial Spanish horses, they were first brought over to North America with the arrival of Cortés in Mexico in the year 1519 where the Native American’s soon adopted them into their lifestyle. By 1686 there was a stable Spanish horse population in what is now Texas.
Chili is often referred to as a Mexican dish. However, Mexican culture denies connections with it. The earliest record of chili comes through legends of a nun in Spain named Sister Mary of Agreda in the 1600s. It is said she never left her convent, but she would have out-of-body experiences coming to the new world to teach the Native Americans about Jesus.
The Blanco Rodeo Association will hold its first Ranch Rodeo rain or shine Saturay, Oct. 13 at Yett Park Arena. Their scheduled Playday is weather-dependent. “We had to cancel the first Playday in September for safety reasons due to rain, and then the rain day was canceled” Jodie Fuchs, event organizer said.
Chris Harbach is a talented song writer with a love for Blanco. She writes about things she knows and experiences from her life. She feels that when she keeps her songs truthful so that each one will find its own finish. Her tunes tell stories that people will enjoy. When asked about the lyrics of her new song, “Bury Me in Blanco,” Chris Harbach is quick to say she has a love for the beauty, peacefulness and slower small-town pace where everybody knows everyone that is uniquely Blanco.
The Blanco County Appraisal District mailed out approximately 19,000 property tax statements for the 2018 tax year on Monday, Oct. 1. The Blanco County Appraisal District is responsible for mailing out tax statements for eight taxing entities, with a total collection estimate of $30,071,258. Taxpayers can mail their payments to Blanco County Appraisal District, P.O.
It is that time again folks. Time to Honor our Heroes! The Blanco Veterans Parade will be on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018 at 10:00 am in beautiful downtown Blanco. Please come out and honor and salute these men and women, We will be lining up at the Blanco High school at 8:00am to 9:00am and the parade will start at 10:00am. We are looking forward to a great turn out and support from our wonderful community.
The League of Women Voters of the Hill Country is conducting a Candidate Forum at 6 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16. The two candidates for Texas House District 45 are participating in the forum at the Blanco Library in the Large Conference Room at 1118 Main St./U.S. Hwy. 281 in Blanco. Candidate forums conductedby the League of Women Voters of the Hill Country are free and open to the public with a focus on audience questions for the candidates.
