First COVID-19 death hits Blanco County

A Blanco County man has died of COVID-19.

The man, who was in his 60s, died unexpectedly at his home in the Johnson City zip code, according to the Blanco County Office of Emergency Management. It is the first reported death of the disease in the county.

All unattended deaths in the county are being screened for COVID-19 by authority of the local health authority. BCOEM reports that the man had minor symptoms of the disease and a test was ordered. The county received word Friday that the test was positive.

The information has been reported to the Texas Department of State Health Services, BCOEM said, and an epidemiological test, including tracing, will be conducted. BCOEM stated that the man did not have any known contacts with COVID-19 and did not travel to areas where there is a substantial number of cases.

As of 4 p.m. Sunday, there have been 10 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Blanco County. Six of those have recovered, three are active and one resulted in death. Confirmed cases are those which have laboratory confirmation.

The latest confirmed case is a person who lives in the eastern portion of Blanco County and is in their 60s, according to BCOEM.

Also as of 4 p.m. Sunday, there are 15 cases under investigation in Blanco County. That means the person is under investigation of “actively displaying clinical features” of COVID-19, but have not yet had lab confirmation.

Any Blanco County resident who has symptoms of COVID-19 or needs testing may register for free testing at BlancoCOVIDTest.org. If there are problems registering, call 1-844-868-8308.
