Last week, three students from the LBJ HS Ag Business Communications class along with teacher, Steven Meier, attended the Pioneers Leadership Camp at McKinney Roughs Nature Park near Bastrop. Pioneers Youth Leadership's mission is to help high school students realize their potential to make a positive change in their communities and sharpen their ability to be effective leaders. The first step to make a positive change in our community this year will be a water quality project.
Raising Funds for Statewide Children’s Camp Out, Fourth Annual Rally Hopes to Draw a Thousand Bikers
AUSTIN, TX – The Texas chapters of Bikers Against Child Abuse (B.A.C.A.) invite motorcycle riders of all types to join them September 26th for a fundraising rally Cowboy Harley-Davidson and Buell of Austin with biker fun, live music, food and beverages. All donations and proceeds from this event benefit the 400+ wounded, young heroes who attend the B.A.C.A Texas children's camp out held each summer. Many abused children become withdrawn and lose the ability to simply play like a child.

Nine students from LBJ Middle School have qualified for participation in this year's Talent Search for mathematically and verbally advanced students sponsored by Duke University's Talent Identification Program (TIP). The program identifies highly able seventh-graders from a 16-state region in the south, southwest and midwest. To be eligible, students must have a Scale Score of 1845 or higher on the 2015 STAAR Math and/or a scale score of 1803 or higher on the 2015 STAAR Reading Test.
JV Volleyball traveled to Leakey this past Tuesday for a match up with the opposing Lady Eagles. Johnson City's Junior Varsity team continued their two game streak defeating Leakey 25-16 and 25-9. High scoring servers were Paige Rutherford (12), Ericka Gomez (9), Gillian Pearce (7), and Aleigh Wessels (5 with 2 aces).
Johnson City JV traveled to Utopia on September 18, 2015 to continue their winning streak. The Lady Eagles made the victory short and sweet winning in two games 25-13 and 25-15. High scorering servers were Laina Deleon (5), Aleigh Wessels (8 with 1 ace) and Ericka Gomez (7). Wessels led with 3 kills and 12 attacks followed by Hailey Fox with 13 attacks. Other impressive effort came from Laina Deleon, Mikayla Tupper, Gillian Pearce, and Rylee Weirich.
The Johnson City Eagles traveled to San Antonio to face the Rohawks from Randolph High School on Friday night. The Rohawks proved to be a very good football team. Coach Harris said that this would be a very good test for his Eagles and it would let him know if they were ready for district play.
The Johnson City Lady Eagles are doing their own version of Willie Nelson's On The Road Again, the Lady Eagles traveled to Utopia last Friday night and then traveled to Leakey on Tuesday night. The Lady Eagles will be back on the road again on Friday as they travel to Harper. The Lady Eagles brought out their brooms and swept the ladies from Utopia in three straight games.
The Hill Country Land Trust (HCLT) and The Hill Country Alliance (HCA) are hosting a conservation easement workshop on Friday, October 23. This workshop will focus on the landowners in the nineteen-county Hill Country region and will bring landowners the message about how to steward and protect their land investment with a conservation easement agreement. Conservation easements are one of the most flexible and effective means to protect private property.

Blanco Performing Arts is pleased to announce the lineup of performers for its sixth season, entitled, "A Few of My Favorite Things." The season kicks off on November 7 at 7:30 pm with an outstanding group, the Miró Quartet. For more than 19 years, the Miró Quartet has received consistently high praise for their deeply musical interpretations, exciting performances, and thoughtful programming.
The Blanco County Historical Commission (BCHC), will hold its quarterly meeting at 1:00pm, Saturday, September 26, 2015, at the Buggy Barn Museum and the new Pine-Moore Town, hosted by their creator, Dennis Moore. The Museum (and new Pine-Moore Town), are located at 1915 Highway 281 North, Blanco, TX (just north of downtown Blanco), on the West side of the highway.
