Patsy Beatrice Martin, 87, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016 in Round Rock, TX. She was born in Crowell, TX to Arthur Guy Ketchersid and Annie Murphy Ketchersid.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Vintson L. Jones; second husband Clement Martin; two sisters, Myrthal Callaway and Wanda Jo Johnson; and two grandchildren, Dan Parker and Shani B.
The 7th and 8th grade girls competed in the Comfort Ribbon Relays last Friday, March 4th. These ladies all compete as an 8th grade team and did very well in their first track meet of the year. The Johnson City Eagles traveled to Comfort Thursday night and competed against much larger schools and showed that they can run, jump and throw with anyone.
The Varsity Boys finished 5th out of ten teams. The JV Team also finished 5th.
Winning individual medals were Blake Caulkins 3rd in the 100 meter dash.
The Johnson City Eagles had a good week, going 2-1 at the Hill Country Classic in Llano and defeating the Armadillos from San Saba.
The Eagles opened up the Hill Country Classic against San Angelo Central’s JV. The Eagles fell behind 4-0 after 1 inning, but would come alive in the second inning and score 6 runs to the Bobcats 1, making the score 6-5.
The Lady Eagles hosted the Blanco County Tournament and showed that they can compete with the big schools in the surrounding area. They Lady Eagles went 2-2-1 in the tournament and tied for third.
The Lady Eagles opened up the tournament against Llano and picked up their first victory of the day.

We’re about a week away from pickup day, the end of our disaster used clothing drive for this year.
Sometime next week, the Seventh-day Adventists’ semi will make its stop in Johnson City, gathering the used clothing donated for distribution to the survivors of disasters that haven’t happened yet.
The clothes collected here will be combined with those gathered by churches and other collectors across Central Texas, and taken to the Adventists’ processing center and warehouse in Alvarado, ...
The Hill Country Cattle Women will meet on March 15, at 10 am at the Lea Lou Co-op at 114 San Antonio Street in Mason Texas
Our meeting will be hosted by the Mason County members, and will be held in Mason.
There wil not be a guest speaker as this will be final meeting prior to Spring Round-Up and the time will be dedicated to finalizing plans for our annual fundraiser.

The Woman’s Civic club met for their February meeting at the Community Church of the Hills. Vice President and hostess Pepper Branch welcomed members and thanked the other hostesses Barbara Counts, Kay Culp and Beverly Voron. We had two guests Ganelle Conner and Catherine Hedges.
Pepper introduced our guest speaker for the evening Jim Aldridge, who gave an interesting program on the history of finding Gold in the Hill Country.
The Round Mountain EEA Club met on February 17 at 2 PM at Cattlemen’s Bank in Round Mountain. Club President Shelley Levitt opened the meeting with the Thought for the Day “A true friend is one who thinks you are a good egg, even though you are slightly cracked”.
A short business meeting was held.
The JCISD School Board met on March 7, 2016 for their regularly scheduled meeting and all board members were present. No one spoke during open forum.
Dr. Noel Landuyt from the Institute for Organizational Excellence at UT Austin was present to provide the Board information on the Survey of Employee Engagement that was sent to all JCISD staff in the fall of 2015.
The 9th annual LBJ 100 Bicycle Tour will be held at the LBJ Ranch near Stonewall, Texas on Saturday, April 2 at 9 am (the ranch gate opens at 7 am). The ride begins and ends on the LBJ Ranch airstrip with routes of 10, 30, 42, and 62 miles, taking riders on peaceful country roads and past historical landmarks that figured prominently in American history and Johnson family history.
I came close to getting punched out at Walmart last Sunday. Why? Because I gave the Gospel to a cashier while purchasing my items in line.
It wasn’t the clerk who threatened me, nor the customer behind. I wasn’t holding up the line, just simply having a friendly spiritual conversation as I was loading my sixty-plus items on the conveyor.
It is said that a doctor can tell a great deal about our physical condition simply by looking at our tongue. The same is true of our spiritual condition. How we use our tongues is a great indicator of our spiritual status. Did you know that all of our religion amounts to nothing if we do not learn to bridle our tongues?

AUSTIN — March 1 Super Tuesday election returns posted by the Texas Secretary of State’s Elections Division show 2.8 million (about 20 percent) of the state’s 14.2 million registered voters cast a ballot in the Republican Party Presidential Primary.
In the Democratic Party Presidential Primary, the statewide turnout was 1.4 million, or about 10 percent of the state’s registered voters.

In its third show of season six, Blanco Performing Arts has once again achieved high marks for classical chamber music. The trio, comprised of clarinetist Nathan Williams, violist Susan Dubois, and pianist Larisa Cherkasov played a superb selection of music from Mozart, Novacek, Rachmaninoff, Messager, Chopin, Bridge, and Bruch.
The trio’s performance at Uptown Blanco ballroom spotlighted each of their instruments yet yielded the most beautiful blend of music.
On March 4th excited third graders from Bracken Christian Institute enjoyed a beautiful spring day for their annual field trip at Selah, Bamberger Ranch Preserve.

Donnie & Linda Liesmann and their family attended their grandson, Jacob’s wedding this past Saturday in Boerne, Texas at the Bella Springs Wedding Venue. Jacob is Matt's son and his uncle Mitchell performed the ceremony.
The County Commissioners met on March 8, 2016 for their regularly scheduled meeting with Commissioner Wood absent.
The Commissioners approved the minutes of the prior meeting, the March 2016 payroll and the official reports. There was discussion concerning the outstanding bills because there are some issues with the mileage reports. Some County employees are not recording amounts accurately and it is skewing the fuel/mileage causing some of the vehicles to report fuel estimates at 50-60 mpg.
On Saturday, March 26th, the Youth Municipal Advisory Council will be breaking ground on the new community garden. The garden will be placed to the left and in front of the public softball fields in the Johnson City park. Produce such as squash, tomatoes, peppers and more will be planted as the first crops in the community garden.
The garden will be a 30 by 70 foot space, with various rows running length wise.
Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site staff and volunteers invite everyone to join the fun Saturday, March 12, 2016 for the Annual LBJ Kite Day – Kites with Courtney. The park staff encourages children of all ages to share in the wonderful experience. Come out and fly a handmade kite or you may bring your own favorite kite and spend the day outdoors in the Texas Hill Country.
The event will be held at the LBJ State Park Baseball Field on Coronet Street starting at 1:00 P.M.
