Tuesday, June 24 employees of Johnson City ISD rode a bus over to the Blanco County Courthouse to thank Justice of the Peace, Randy Brodbeck, for 22 years of service on the school board. Brodbeck has seen and enabled many changes for Johnson City schools. In the years since being sworn in on May 15, 1995 there has been construction on new classrooms, the high school, middle school, football stadium, central offices, and renovations to the softball stadium.
The worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11 in Orlando, Florida, reminds us once again that Americans are not immune to fanatical extremism. Zika virus is the latest threat to our health and the two major Presidential candidates may cause more depression than exhilaration.
So what’s a person to do?

The 1986 High School Graduation Ceremonies began at the LBJ Stadium but before the commencement exercises could be completed a heavy rainfall fell and the events had to moved to the LBJ High School Gym.
Cattleman’s National Bank opened its doors for the first time. By closing time, over $1 million in deposits had been taken in.
Nearly 26,000 PEC members or former members have unclaimed funds on file with the cooperative. These funds, worth more than $1.8 million, are primarily capital credits that have gone unredeemed or unclaimed.

Race fans eager to stand trackside for live pari-mutuel horse racing will find it at Fredericksburg Downs on July 2 and 3 when the Gillespie County Fair & Festivals Association hosts its first race meet of the summer.
The racing schedule at the Class 3 track calls for a full slate of quarter horse and thoroughbred racing as well as special races, trials, and futurities.
