Pedernales Electric Cooperative hosted its second of two special meetings involving a complaint against Vice President of the Board of Directors, James Oakley. At the first meeting on November 30 the Board appointed a Complaint Committee to decide the course of action PEC would take. The Complaint Committee met again on December 7, 2016 to hear more public comments and discuss their decision with legal counsel.
The complaint originated from a comment Oakley made on Facebook on November 21.
The final “Third Thursday” lecture of 2016 at the Johnson City Public Library will feature Water 101¸ a presentation by Charlie Flatten, Water Policy Manager for the Hill Country Alliance. The lecture will take place 6 pm on Tuesday, December 13, at Johnson City Public Library, 501 Nugent Ave. Johnson City, TX 78636.
The work day to set up pens, clean the show barn and make other additional preparations for the upcoming 2017 Blanco County Youth Show is scheduled for SATURDAY DECEMBER 10, 2016 AT 8AM until 1PM at the Blanco County Livestock Show Barn in Johnson City. Harlingen-based Texas State Bankshares Inc.and Blanco-based Blanco National Holdings Inc. announced Tuesday that they have entered into a definitive agreement to merge Blanco National Bank with Texas Regional Bank, pending regulatory approval.

“THE DATE WHICH WILL LIVE IN INFAMY” was yesterday, December 7, which was the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor in where over 2,300 people died and 1,100 injured. It was a Sunday morning when the sneak attack by Japanese bombers was perpetrated on Pearl Harbor in Oahu, Hawaii.
The mighty British Army under the command of General Charles Cornwallis had pursued George Washington’s little rag-tag American forces clear across the State of New Jersey and, as far as he was concerned, had the pesky little war of independence all but wrapped up. In fear of the advancing enemy, Philadelphia, the American seat of government at the time, had been abandoned by its leaders and most of its citizens who were sympathetic to the cause of the American colonies.

The 2017 Johnson City Senior Class is hosting a dodgeball tournament on December 17, 2016 at the Hyatt Gym. Each team includes 6 members and the charge will be $10 per person/$60 per team. Registration forms can be picked up from the office at the elementary, middle, or high school offices.
The Johnson City Lady Eagles had a busy week, playing Cherokee on Tuesday and hosting the LBJ Invitational Tournament. The Lady Eagles won one and lost three last week.
Johnson City faced Cherokee Tuesday and lost a tough fought contest 41-47. The Eagles had the lead after three quarters 35-30, but Cherokee got red hot and scored 17 fourth quarter points compared to the Lady Eagles’ 6 points.
The Johnson City Eagles went 3-3 this past week and are getting better with each outing. The Eagles faced Cherokee Tuesday night and came away with a convincing 77-50 victory. The visiting Indians stayed close for one quarter, trailing the Eagles 12-13 after the 1st quarter. Johnson City caught fire in the second period scoring 30 points and took a 43-24 lead after one half.

FREDERICKSBURG—On this Day of Prayer, the Day the Bible says, “God rested,” Americans did not have time to pray, and the Japanese did not rest.
It was tragic beyond comprehension. It was a horrific shock. The U.S.S. Arizona, Oklahoma, California, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Tennessee: names of these states and others were on ships and lined up on an island that would become—but was not yet—a state, itself.
