The Blanco County Commissioners Courtroom was packed on Tuesday December 13, 2016 to support the retiring elected officials that were honored during the first December Commissioners’ session.
The routine agenda items went by quickly as Commissioners authorized payment of the outstanding bills for the month at $84,539, approved official reports and payroll.
The Johnson City Eagles had a great showing at the Natalia Tournament finishing second behind a high ranked AA Brackett. The Eagles are 6-4 on the season and will face Leakey in Leakey Tuesday and open district play Friday at home against Ingram Tom Moore.
The Eagles started the tournament playing a talented Stockdale team.
Last weekend the Lady Eagles competed in the Lady Ro-Hawk Tournament losing three out of their three games but improving with each one.
Coach Katy Taylor knew that when she took the Johnson City Lady Eagle basketball job that it would be a tough task, with most the team graduating last year and moving up to class AAA.
The Lyndon B. Johnson High School senior class is planning a fundraiser dodgeball tournament for their drug and alcohol free “Project Graduation” party.
The Dodgeball tournament is to take place on December 17 at the Hyatt Gym at 10 a.m. Registration for the event starts at 9 a.m. Registration forms can be picked up from the front office of any of the JCISD offices.

I WAS OFFENDED! I couldn’t believe my eyes. Was this allowed in Johnson City, Texas? Apparently so. As far as I knew there was no law against it.
I walked up to the counter of a very popular store the other day and there was the most offensive, agitating, insensitive sign I ever saw.
The Johnson City Library will host a free four-part reading, viewing and discussion series for adults called Pushing the Limits. Our library is one of 60 rural public libraries nationwide receiving grants to host the series. Pushing the Limits brings together books and video featuring authors, scientists and everyday people who thrive on exploring the natural world.

The Lady Eagle 7th and 8th grade girls traveled to Ingram Monday evening to take on the Lady Warriors.
Our Lady Eagle 7th graders fell to Ingram, 15-50. The Lady Warriors of Ingram outmatched our Lady Eagles throughout most of the game. The team once again struggled to break a strong Ingram press and ended up turning the ball over many times, each time leading to Ingram baskets.
The 47th Annual LBJ Tree Lighting will be held on Sunday, Dec. 18th, 2016 at 6 p.m., at Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site. This tradition was started 47 years ago in the Hill Country community by President and Mrs. Johnson. This is a memorable family evening for all to experience the heritage of the Texas Hill Country and continue the legacy of Lyndon B.
The Johnson City School Board held their last regular meeting for 2016 on Monday December 13. Main discussion topics were the latest audit report, the possibility of accepting transfer students, and the athletic report from Johnson City School District’s Athletic Director, Chris Cloninger who announced the UIL honors from the Volleyball and Football season.

Johnson City’s Living Nativity Pageant has closed for the season after 20 performances at the First United Methodist Church.
