Blanco County Commissioners went through the agenda in reverse order on Tuesday, March 14 so they could end with an executive session discussing the possible lease of the Old Blanco County Jail. They also discussed renovations to an existing Justice of the Peace facility to function as a South-County annex; dispatch services; and set the date for the county-wide cleanup event. A dozen individuals were injured as the result of a four-vehicle accident on Friday, March 10. North Blanco County EMS was dispatched with the Johnson City Volunteer Fire Department to the scene of the incident South of Johnson City on HWY 281. Blanco County 911 received reports of a multiple-vehicle accident with injuries, including children injured.

Beginning March 22, Hill Country Memorial Medical Group will welcome an additional provider to its Johnson City Medical Clinic. Byron Hutson, MPAS, PA-C, will begin seeing patients at the clinic on Wednesdays. “In order to meet our patients’ expectations and the community’s needs, Byron will provide additional support in Johnson City,” said Carrie Culpepper, HCM Medical Group Director. I remember the ballyhoo when photos of Elvis Presley were released showing him at a military base getting his head scalped by a U.S. Army barber. The girls cried and swooned, the guys were glad to see their rival taken down a notch. For me, the sad thing is that today such “scalping” is a daily occurrence in so-called barber shops all across Texas. Some of the fondest memories of my childhood include going to the barber shop with my dad.

The center, which hosted its grand opening a year ago, is an ongoing project of the Former Texas Rangers Association (FTRA). The Johnson City FFA chapter is off to an impressive start by placing high at several Career Development Events (CDEs) this year. The Wildlife Management CDE requires students to be knowledgeable of wildlife species and their habitat, range plants, fish and game laws, and outdoor safety.
