At their May 23 court session, Commissioners held a workshop about financing the South County Annex. They also discussed changes in their plans to purchase a computer aided dispatch system for the Sheriff’s Department.

Midway through the meeting, Commissioners recessed from regular session and opened a workshop session to discuss funding for major projects.
Jamie Petronella, the mother of the 15-month-old girl who died last year, will spend 30 years in prison.
Through a plea deal, the 24-year-old Petronella pleaded guilty last Wednesday, May 17, to first-degree felony injury to a child in connection to the death of her daughter, Sunny Bort. The charge stemmed from her omission to seek medical help for her 15-month-old child.
She also waived her right to an appeal before 33rd District Court Judge Allan Garrett.

Joni began her 30 year postal career at the South Austin Post Office in 1987 as a City Carrier. Her career took her to the West Austin Station as well as Westlake while she served as a letter carrier.
Congratulations to Steven Meier & the Wildlife Team! They placed second in State on April 25th! Team members were Darren Sultemeier, Grey Grote, Colby Turner & Brett Sultemeier. Darren placed first & Grey tenth! Way to go, boys!

The Kids’ Lunch Club has almost all the volunteers we need to serve lunches three days a week to children through the summer.
I MIGHT HAVE BEEN ARRESTED IN CALIFORNIA if I did what I did last Sunday night, yet there was a good turnout by the Johnson City community to encourage all the graduates being honored at the 2017 Baccalaureate held at H.O.M.E. church.

He was not chosen by his fellow members of the Continental Congress to be commander-in-chief because he was a great military leader.
The Johnson City Eagles traveled to Dripping Springs Friday night to take on 25AAA District Champion Gateway College Prep. They lost the series in two games and ended their playoff run.
The Gators came into the series with a record of 19-2, and two previous wins over the Eagles in district play.
Class of 2017 Continue Bell-Ringing Tradition
This Friday night the community will gather to celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2017 in the LBJHS Gym. The ceremony – open to the public – begins at 7pm; doors open at 6pm. Floor seating is limited to the immediate family (parents, grandparents, siblings) of the graduates; accessible seating is also provided on the lowest row of the bleachers.
Heart health and sleep presentation June 6
Hill Country Memorial will host “Healthy Sleep-Rested Heart,” a free heart health presentation at the Westside Park Community Hall on Tues., June 6.
A complimentary lunch will be provided at 11:30 a.m. followed by a presentation on the connection between sleep disorders and heart health.
The presentation includes a question-and-answer session with HCM sleep technologist Theresa Cochran and cardiac rehabilitation nurse Patsy Glasscock.

An upcoming short film will have some local icons featured. “Cotton,” a short film project by Producer and Director, Tyler Russell, used Johnson City Police Cars and Odiorne Feed Store hats in the production filmed on a Cypress Mill ranch.
The film follows Sheriff Cotton, a small-town Texas Sheriff played by George Hardy and the hot-headed but good hearted Deputy Shanks, played by Judd Lormand.
“I’m kinda the peacekeeper.” Says Hardy about his character.
