The Johnson City Library and six libraries were awarded a $75,000 grant from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. The purpose of the grant is for smaller communities to have access to technology equipment we might not be able to afford, and to give our communities training and knowledge to work with this equipment. The grant was written by the Bulverde Spring Branch Library and titled “Rolling Do It Yourself”.
Game Warden Sam Smith gave the invocation at Tuesday night’s city council meeting before the council convened into their regular monthly session. The Council adopted impact fees for future development and added an addendum to the most recent zoning map. Local business owners also shared their traffic concerns surrounding the Courthouse Square. Impact Fees The Council voted to adopt impact fees for future lot plats in Johnson City.
Texas voted to adopt all seven propositions proposed by lawmakers during the 2017 legislative session that will amend the state constitution. There were 156 constitutional amendments proposed by the 85th regular session, with seven finding their way to the statewide ballot measure. It’s the first real cold front of the season. Most people are still nestled in their beds, or are getting ready to enjoy their warm cup of coffee and enjoy their Sunday morning. Two local Johnson City residents, Michelle Means and Charlie Moore, have a different plan for the morning of Sunday, Oct.
Last week the Lady Eagles volleyball season came to an end with a loss to the Lady Cobras from Industrial High School in three sets to none. The Lady Eagles scored 15, 21 and 20 points to the Lady Cobras’ scores of 25. The Lady Eagles finished the season with a school record number of wins of 31 surpassing last year’s record of 29.
Johnson City took on the state ranked Lexington Eagles for the last home game of the season. Johnson City held their ground, but Lexington proved to be too much, defeating JC with a final score of 14-41, Lexington. Johnson City had a difficult time combatting the Lexington defense, gaining only 89 yards rushing and 108 yards passing.
Two of the hottest trends in fitness have found their way to Johnson City. Core Fitness is a locally owned fitness studio which opened in January 2017. They have added Tabata Bootcamp 101 and Pound to their fall lineup of fitness classes. Led by certified instructor, Maddie McNett, Tabata Bootcamp 101 is a 6-week, small group program that combines High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) exercise with online nutritional guidance and support for behavioral change.

Most of the 14,000 apple trees my dad planted on the banks of the Piedras Verdes River in Chihuahua were an imported variety called Stark Crimson. However, on a high ledge overlooking the rest of the orchard he planted about 800 trees of a variety called Oregon Spur. When weather conditions were right the latter variety produced large, deep red, crisp and juicy fruit.
Having a son who served as a Marine greatly helps Hope Ware to provide support for other veterans. Ware, the veterans support coordinator for Llano County through Hill Country MHDD (Mental Health Development and Disabilities Services), helps veterans with services such as counseling, support groups and more. “My son was in the Marines for four years, and I lived with him for 15 months when he got back (from Afghanistan).
Lamar Smith, U.S. Representative of District 21, announced his retirement last week. He will not be seeking re-election in 2018. Smith is one of the longest running congressmen in history.
