Last Tuesday, Jan. 9, the City Council held their first regular meeting of 2018 where councilmembers approved several new ordinances pertaining golf carts on city streets, utility connections and the cat population in Johnson City. Johnson City hosted the Comfort Bobcats last Tuesday, and sent all three Bobcat teams back home with a loss. The Varsity won in high-scoring fashion, JC 87, Comfort 77, and both JV teams secured a victory. JC started strong against Comfort’s press, scoring a season high 31 points in the first quarter, and carried the attack into half-time, leading 49 to 38.
Dr. Kathy Koch recently spent two days on the campus of Faith Academy training teachers, parents, and students on a variety of topics, including technology and the five core needs of young people. Dr. Koch is the Founder and President of Celebrate Kids, Inc., which is based in Fort Worth. She is also a sought-after keynote speaker and a popular guest on Focus on the Family radio.
The Junior High boys basketball teams traveled to face the Lago Vista Vikings last week for their first games back after a long break. The Seventh and Eighth B team started things for the Eagles with leading efforts from Keen Linson who scored all of the B-teams 12 points. Coach Katy Taylor and her Lady Eagles took on the Comfort Deer at home last Tuesday Jan. 9. The Lady Eagles kept it close through two quarters, “executing a lot of things we have been focusing on defensively,” Coach Taylor said post-game. The second half started with the Lady Eagles behind 14-26, but they fought hard, finishing with a final score of Johnson City 33, Comfort 52. Leland Lewis “Steve” Stevenson passed away December 22, 2017, in Lockhart Texas. He was a proud 98-1/2 years old. People often remarked that he was the nicest man they had ever met. This beloved gentleman was the rock and the heart of his family. Leland was born May 25th, 1919 in Johnson City, Texas, to John Sidney Stevenson and Bessie Sewell Stevenson.
