The votes are counted in Blanco County and the Precinct 2 Commissioner Race is scheduled to go to a runoff election on May 22 between candidates Lance Odiorne and Emil Ray Uecker. Out of 8,179 registered voters in Blanco County only 2,439 ballots were cast equated 29.8% of registered Blanco County voters.

Tuesday March 6, the City Council of Johnson City held their regular monthly meeting at City Hall. The main agenda concern came from citizens who feel speeding and traffic on Main St. is reaching dangerous levels. The Blanco-Pedernales Groundwater Conservation District held its monthly meeting Feb. 22, 2018, General manager Ron Fieseler presented the district’s annual report. Discussion turned to the three monitored wells in the northern end of the county, the District well near the conservation building, Stone Ridge well and the Verizon substation well. Two of these wells are on the Ellenberger Aquifer, while the other is on the San Saba Formation.

The Johnson City School board met Monday night. During the meeting they discussed future funding strategies and voted to move the 2018-2019 fifth grade class to LBJ Elementary School campus. Monday’s school board meeting started with recognitions of several students who had achieved academic honors in the past month. Lauren Boyer of LBJ Elementary School was recognized for her winning essay about Stephen F.
As the days get longer and the air gets warmer, the spring tracksters get moving. Johnson City has competed in two meets already, the Blanco Panther Relays, and the Comfort Invitational. Blanco Panther Relays Both Junior Varsity and Varsity boys’ teams placed sixth overall in Blanco. Top finishers for the JV include Dooley Smith in the 100 M dash, Jereld Brothers in the 3200 M run, as well as the 4x100 and 4x200 M relays. Make plans to pedal your bicycle through the historic LBJ Ranch and along peaceful country roads on Saturday, March 24, during the 11th annual LBJ 100 Bicycle Ride. The ride begins and ends on the LBJ Ranch near Stonewall in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. Cyclists will launch from the ranch’s airstrip at 9:00 am (the ranch gate opens at 7:00 am) and choose routes of 10, 30, 42, and 62 miles.

The 2018 scholarship season is underway for Blanco County Aggie Freshmen. Each year the Blanco County Aggie Moms and Blanco County Aggie Club jointly award scholarships to incoming freshmen from Blanco County. To be eligible to apply students must have been accepted as full time students to either Texas A&M Main Campus or Texas A&M-Galveston for 2018-19. The scholarship application can be completed online, printed, and turned into the school counselors at Blanco High or LBJ High.

Surrounded intermittently for the last two weeks of her life by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, Opal Hogan Topper went to be with the Lord on March 3, 2018. She was born on July 5, 1928, the second oldest of eleven children. Hers was a humble lifestyle. She loved the Lord.

But why does He always seem to take so long and why does Jesus always, always seem to make us wait? If you are going through something now and you’re not getting any help or answers, then you, too, are in The Waiting Room and there ain’t nothin’ you can do except, well, wait.
As a school administrator and as a parent I have seen many a young person balk when expected to follow certain rules and regulations. And it isn’t just youth, however, who get upset with having to follow rules. I recently traveled on Southwest Airlines. When you’re in a hurry, having to go through all the security rigmarole at the airport can be a real pain in the neck.
