The Board of Directors for the Blanco County Appraisal District gathered for their quarterly meeting on Tuesday, March 20.
The board approved last quarter’s meeting minutes and financial reports for the months of December through February before moving into new business.
Paul Sumrall was approved to serve another year as the Annual Review Board Chairman.
Each year the Blanco County Pioneers Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas sponsors a Texas History Essay contest for fourth grade students. This year’s topic was “Stephen F. Austin”.
The essay written by Lauryn Boyer of LBJ Elementary School in Johnson City took first place honors in Blanco County and also won District honors.
The Johnson City Eagle baseball team began the district season with two games last week, losing 1-2 to Florence in the opener and defeating Gateway 14-12. The Eagles travel to Comfort on Tuesday, March 20 to take on the Bobcats and host the Blanco Panthers on Friday, March 23.

It was my privilege to visit the little town of Tierra Blanca every two to three weeks as I made the rounds of “my” schools. Three of the ten schools I supervised were located in the beautiful gulf state of Veracruz, Mexico. The school in Tierra Blanca was the smallest and most rural of those I called upon.
Hill Country Memorial is now accepting applications for its Student Volunteer Summer Program. Individuals aged 16 years or older (as of June 1, 2018) must submit an application, two letters of recommendation and a parental release form by April 16. The program is open to 20 high school or college students.
