Judge Donna Klaeger, Sr. VP of Community Resources for Texas Housing Management Foundation shared a presentation with Blanco County Commissioners regarding the new Community Resource Center for Blanco County. Retired County Commissioner James Sultemeir and current board member of Capital Area Housing Finance Corporation (CAHFC) presented a $50,000 check from CAHFC on behalf of Blanco County to be used for the Community Resource Center.
For the 12th year in a row, the Johnson City FFA Wildlife team placed in the top ten at the State Wildlife Career Development Event. The 2019 contest was held at the Welder Wildlife Foundation in Sinton, Texas. Kelan Painter, Brinley Portie, Logan Sadler and Brett Sultemeier with coach and FFA advisor, Steven Meier, placed 7th out of the sixty teams who had qualified from the 12 FFA Areas in Texas.

You may soon receive an appraisal notice from the Llano Central Appraisal District. The appraisal district will mail about 25,000 appraisal notices on May 1, 2019. Your city, county, school district and other local taxing units will use the appraisal district’s value to set your 2019 property taxes. Under Texas law, county appraisal districts are required to notify property owners about changes in their property’s value.

Don Casey of Cypress Mill will be honored for outstanding contributions to the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation program at a Conservation Awards Banquet for Region 2 on May 7, 2019 in Wall. Area 2 consists of 44 districts in the Texas Hill Country, and west to El Paso.
To sit in the courtroom of the Supreme Court of the United States and watch the nine justices in action is one thing. To sit in the courtroom and watch the justices in action when the issue is about freedom of information and the public’s right to know in America is a privilege. It was on April 22 that I witnessed the Supreme Court hear oral arguments in the case of Food Marketing Institute v.
Hill Country Astronomers (HCA) will meet on Monday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the HEB Activity Room at Hill Country University Center in Fredericksburg. Lindsay Fuller, Ph.D., will present “Exploring the Neighborhood of Supermassive Black Holes.” Dr. Fuller uses data from SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy), a 2.5-meter telescope that is mounted on a Boeing 747, to explore the material surrounding the black holes at the center of active galaxies.

The Eagles caused quite a stir in District 25-3A Baseball when their 6-5 victory at Blanco last Tuesday knotted three teams in a tie for first place with one game remaining. Blanco, Gateway and JC boasted 9-2 records after the Eagles used another show of solid pitching and defense backed up by consistent contact at bat to avenge the first-round loss to the Panthers at home.
Junior Kalli Dalland made the finals and placed 4th in each of her events at the UIL Region 4-3A Track & Field Championships at Converse-Judson High School last week. On Friday, Dalland threw her best mark (35’10.75”) on the final throw in the preliminary round of the Shot Put. Katryn Hernandez of Skidmore-Tynan won the event with a heave of 43’3.25” on her last throw in the finals; Ashley Taylor (Yoakum) placed 2nd with 37’8.75”. The Spirit of Sacrifice, a name which the Alamo Cenotaph is known by commemorates the battle fought there. Bearing the names of the men who fought and died for the freedom of Texas, the monument was erected during the Texas Centennial in 1938. The inscription on the marker tells of this great sacrifice. Horace Hale Perry, 86, of Johnson City passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2019, at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Marble Falls, Texas. Horace was born on April 23, 1932, in Austin, Texas to Della Mae Ross Perry and Horace H. Perry, Sr. He was a retired plumber and musician who played for various artists such Ray Price and numerous other celebrities.
Born in Austin Texas to Virginia Holland Laird and Langston Smith in the old Seton Hospital, Pat was raised in Tarrytown and he attended a private kindergarten, then Pease Elementary, University Junior High, Schreiner Military School and graduated from Austin High in 1954. Austin was a typical small town in Pat’s childhood, and he enjoyed living in Tarrytown (the county back then) where his family had some acreage.
