The regular meeting of the Blanco County Commissioners Court was called to order at 9 a.m. by Judge Brett Bray. Commissioners: Tommy Weir, Emil Uecker, Chris Liesmann, and Paul Granberg were present. Public comments have been moved to the beginning of the agenda and comments were limited to three minutes.
A win on the road in District 25-3A Volleyball is hard to come by and the Lady Eagles Varsity got a big one last Tuesday when they rolled into Lago Vista and rolled back out with a four-set victory. Lago Vista took the advantage early winning the first set 21-25 and seemed poised to take Set 2 as they put together a 4-point run at 21-19 to take a 21-23 lead.

City of Johnson City City Council held a Regular Meeting on September 10, 2019. Mayor Rhonda Stell called the Executive Session to order at 5 pm to interview candidates and deliberate the employment of a Public Works Director.
After resuming Open Session, the City Council approved motion from Council Member Clayton Young and second by Council Member Gayla Guthrie to hire Brent Sultemeier as the Public Works Director with a six month probationary period.

The LBJ Middle School 7th and 8th Grade Football teams kicked off the 2019 season last Thursday hosting the Randolph Rohawks at Eagle Field. The Varsity Eagles dropped to 0-3 with a road loss to the 3A-D1 Randolph Rohawks on Friday night in a 24-47 decision at Robert G Cole Stadium in San Antonio. Though JC led in first downs (14-13) and Randolph accrued more penalties (2 for 10 yards - 10 for 70 yards) it was the scoreboard that added up in the host team’s favor as the Rohawks scored all 47 of their points in the first half for a 47-10 lead.
The Eagle and Lady Eagle Cross Country kept their top ten streak alive with Lydia White, Jackie Earley and Antonio Perez racing to their third consecutive top ten individual finishes this season on a grueling Bandera Invitational course. White finished the 2-mile course in 13:04 for a 10th Place finish in the Varsity Girls’ Division; Joy Gill of San Antonio Home School paced all runners with a time of 11:32 for the win.

I noticed it about a week ago as I drove to my church. “What the heck?” I thought. “I wonder what happened?” It looked like it got hit by a very big truck going too fast or one of those 50 MPH summer winds nearly blew it over.
Anyone who has walked Fredericksburg’s historic district has noticed a number of homes and commercial buildings constructed of an unusual building material that looks like cut stone but is really a prefabricated concrete block known as Basse block.
In the first half of the 20th century local builders used Basse block in some of the finer buildings in the Hill Country.
