By Sophia Kalish, L/COTA These days it seems there are support groups for everything and it can certainly wear one down to try to figure out how to deal with things in their life or find the right group. While this may be something you don’t think you need or have time for, support groups can be a lifeline to many people in a caregiver role.
The Commissioners Court Special meeting was called to order by Judge Brett Bray at 9 a.m. All four commissioners:Tommy Weir, Emil Uecker, Chris Liesmann, and Paul Granberg were present for the meeting. Public comments took place first. Minutes from the previous meeting were approved. Next, the four line item transfers were discussed and approved.
The Varsity Lady Eagles completed another perfect week to push their District 25-3A record to 5-0 with three games remaining in the first round. Last Tuesday they traveled to Georgetown to take on the Gateway Lady Gators - Area finalists in 2018 and always tough on their home court. The Freshman team fought hard in falling to a more experienced JVB team in two sets.  The JV team found their rhythm and beat the Lady Gators in an exciting three-set match.
The Poth Pirates used their size and numbers to out-muscle the Eagles last Thursday in the Junior Varsity, 8th Grade and 7th Grade match-ups. Facing injuries before and during the game, the JV team lost at Poth 34-0. The Eagles showed improvement on the offensive side of the ball, but an early touchdown pass from Grayson Jacobs to Ashton Lopez that was called back on a penalty proved to be the only trip into the endzone for the visitors.
On Monday, September 30, the LBJ High School Student Council will be sponsoring a Blood Drive in the High School Gym.  Technicians from the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center will be available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for donations. The Eagle and Lady Eagle Cross Country teams enjoyed a 20-degree drop in temperatures at race time on Saturday in Ingram with the breezy 76-degrees a welcomed change from the 90-degree-plus weather they have been battling since August. In the Varsity Girls’ Division a not-up-to-par Lydia White - fighting off the effects of a weeklong sinus infection - kept her string of Top Ten finishes intact, finishing the 2+-mile course in 13:27 for 7th Place.
An early defensive stand by the Eagles forced the Poth Pirates to punt from their endzone and the resulting drive ended with a 20-yard scamper by Quarterback Logan Ledger to put JC on the board 6-0 with 9:40 remaining in the first quarter of the non-district contest Friday night at Eagle Field.
The Lady Eagles kept their perfect District 25-3A record intact with a run of victories at Georgetown - Gateway last Monday night. The 7th Grade B-Team opened the evening with a two set victory over the host Lady Gators (25-19 and 25-7). Aleah Malone, Ashley Barrera, Alea Spells, Addison Allen, and Jacelyn Unger were strong from the service line.

I have to admit that my running career has been less than stellar. In my junior year of high school I won the 440-yard dash and the high jump. Having convinced myself that I had both events in the bag, my senior year I came in second in each of them. Shortly after taking my first “real job” in Mexico City, I decided that I should start running in order to stay fit.
WOULD YOU CONFESS YOUR SINS TO A PLANT? What if you were a seminary student learning to be a minister and this was taught by your professor? Wouldn’t you think something was amiss? Of course, but that’s just what happened at New York’s Union Theological Seminary last week when an image was posted to Twitter of students gathered around a bunch of plants while one seminarian was apparently disclosing his deepest, darkest secrets to the flora fellowship.
FREDERICKSBURG — Oktoberfest, the family-oriented German event taking place in the center of Fredericksburg, is poised to again attract 1,400 volunteers and 22,000 visitors in its 39TH year. Last week, USA Today chose Oktoberfest in Fredericksburg as one of the 10 BEST in the U.S. As a result, the oom-pah-pah echo of 38 previous years will carry over in the hearts and minds of people who have made the event an annual tradition, many who traversed hundreds of miles to attend.
More than a dozen women attended a meeting Sept. 20 to learn more about the League of Women Voters (LWV), a nonpartisan organization that presents information to help voters decide on issues like the upcoming constitutional amendments, as well as sponsoring candidate forums. Two members of the LWV-Hill Country Texas leadership team, Bunny Bond from Kerr County and Janice Zitelman from Gillespie County, traveled to the Johnson City Library to outline the League’s activities, mission, and o ...
