The Wenmohs Ranch on Old Spicewood Road recently received a certification from the Family Land Heritage Program by the Texas Department of Agriculture. The Family Land Heritage Program is a recognition program that honors families who have owned and operated a continuous agricultural operation for 100 years or more. Rust III, a resident of Blanco, Texas, has given a gift of $25,000 to the Texas State University Development Foundation to establish a permanent endowment entitled the Cicero Alexander Rust III Endowed Scholarship in Musical Theatre. AUSTIN—Rebecca Bell-Metereau filed as a candidate today in the March 3 Democratic Primary to represent District 5 on the Texas State Board of Education. The Blanco County Farm Bureau Board of Directors decided to donate $200 to all four of the local 4-H clubs. Because Farm Bureau puts a big emphasis on youth, they want to challenge children early, and think it’s important children know about the food they eat, and the fiber that makes up the clothes they wear.

LBJ High School Freshman Dusti Welch won a $4000 scholarship for her 1st Place finish in the Painting & Mixed Media Division of the San Antonio Western Art Competition last weekend. The University Interscholastic League (UIL) announced the conference cutoffs in their Biennial Reclassification and Realignment - the basis for the competition and playoff structure for all participating schools. Sophomore Karina Calderon and Freshman Avery Tumlinson earned All-Tournament honors in the LBJ Invitational Tournament last weekend. The Lady Eagles defeated the Fredericksburg JV and fell to Canyon Lake in the Consolation Finals of the eight team bracket. The Randolph Lady Rohawks defeated St. Mary’s Hall for the Championship. “Avery was our leading scorer and Karina did a good job on defense and distributing the ball in our offense,” said Head Coach Cori Baker.

At Christmastime, as I set out the small statuettes of our family’s Nativity scene, my eyes are always drawn to Mary tenderly admiring her newborn Son lying in a manger. We obviously don’t know if the artist’s depiction of this scene is accurate, but I appreciate how it invites me to consider Mary and the enormous responsibility placed on her shoulders.
