Board President Shelly Wenmohs called the regular meeting of the JCISD Board to order on January 11, 2021 at 6:03 p.m. in the LBJ Elementary Cafeteria. A quorum was established with six members present. There were no public comments. January is School Board Appreciation month, and the Board was recognized and honored for their service.
Gasoline prices in Texas have risen 7.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.09/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. This compares with the national average that has increased 4.2 cents per gallon versus last week to $2.38/g, according to GasBuddy. CareFlite, America’s oldest joint use air medical program will open a new air medical base on March 1, 2021. The new base will be located at the Buchanan Dam Community Center, 2395 Ranch Road 261, Buchanan Dam, TX 78609. For the first time, Llano County will have a state-of-the-art Bell 407GX EMS helicopter based in the county for quick responses to emergencies including patient transfers from local hospitals to the closest trauma centers.
The new year has started, and 2021 resolutions have been made. The North Blanco County ESD-1 held a regular meeting via Zoom videoconferencing on Monday evening. President David O’Bannon called the meeting to order at 7 p.m., and a quorum was established. Secretary-Treasurer Kay Odiorne motioned for approval of the minutes from the December 14, 2020 regular meeting and Commissioner Kirk McElhinney seconded; this motion carried 5-0.
The City Council held a regular meeting on January 12, 2021 at City Hall. Mayor Rhonda Stell called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. Pastor Steve Sanchez gave the Invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. There were no public comments. At 6:02 p.m. Council adjourned into a Closed Session and resumed Open Session at 7:04 p.m.

The Eagle Junior Varsity team was the lone winner on Friday night as the Harper Longhorns came to town for District 29-2A basketball. The JV Eagles stretched their district record to xx wins without a loss behind a balanced scoring attack that included seven points each by Ryan Alvis and Ryan Shipley, six points from Owen Portie and XX Rogers and five points from xx Lopez.
The 8th Grade Lady Eagles avenged an earlier loss to Harper outplaying the host Lady Longhorns for the 32-18 victory. Seven players combined for double figure scoring in the first and third quarters, led by Jackie Early with 8. Maddie Hacker added 6 points, Kathryn Johnson 6, Bo Crownover 4 and Madison Marshall 4.

Flora Maxine Cox, age 95, of Harrison, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 15, 2021 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Harrison. The daughter of Andy Burton Knapp and Cora (Heeter) Knapp was born on February 1, 1925 in Sturkie, Arkansas. Flora started teaching when she was 21 years old and taught business education in Johnson City and Borger, Texas for 39 years.

Hal “Boss” Peterson left the family ranch at 15 years old to work at Mr. Weston’s garage at the corner of Water Street and Sidney Baker in Kerrville. By the time Boss was 18, he and his brother Charlie owned the place. The Peterson Garage and Auto Company became the cornerstone of a family business empire.
