A Blanco County health official expects to see the county’s COVID-19 vaccine waiting list to swell as providers across the state were ordered last week to open inoculations to people who are at least 16 years of age. Prior to the new rules that went into effect on Monday, March 29, only adults at least 50 years of age and people with certain medical conditions were eligible to receive the vaccine.

A while back I was giving a talk to a group of people about the condition of our Hill Country habitat when a woman, obviously peeved about my suggesting the overabundant population of deer was damaging the habitat and needed to be reduced, blurted out, “Well, you just like plants more than animals.” My initial thought was that it was just a reflex response to my suggestion that some of her beloved deer should be shot. On further reflection, I think that at least part of her response was ...

The Eagle Varsity Baseball team wasted no time getting back into the “swing” of things, rattling pitchers from Mason and San Saba with hits and runs in double digits to open District 29-2A play. With their last contest before meeting Mason on the road last Tuesday, March 23 - a 10-2 pummeling of the Schulenburg Shorthorns on March 13th - Coach Steven Shipley and the Eagles could have come out lukewarm in their district opener.
If first-year Lady Eagle Head Coach Jack Brown was unsure of the resilience of this year’s squad he got his proof on Monday night as they didn’t just bounce back from last Friday’s setback – a 3-9 loss at Center Point – they bounded back with a decisive 17-9 victory over the Harper Lady Longhorns.
LBJ Middle brought home three championship plaques from the Harper Longhorn Relays on Friday. The 7th Grade Lady Eagles scored 187 points, edging runner-up Harper with 186. Amid the celebration surrounding Opening Day for JCYSA, family and friends also celebrated the life of Beau Henderson. The rule of law is one of the fundamental principles upon which a stable society is built. Unfortunately, the rule of law is oft-times ignored or mis-construed in order for one body politic or one philosophy to prevail over another. Things haven’t changed much in 2,000 years. Take for instance the trial, or set of trials, that sent Jesus Christ to the cross.

The Postscript
March is winding down and my sister-in-law, Lori, is going with it. There is too much food and too many flowers because that is what we do when someone is dying, when we don’t know what else to do as, gradually, the unthinkable becomes accepted and even ordinary. We make more food and bring more flowers.
