JCISD Trustees held a Regular meeting in the LBJ Elementary Library on August 9th, 2021, and President Matt McKennis called the meeting to order at 6:03 pm. A quorum was established. The new 2021-2022 certified staff members were introduced by the campus principals and supervisors. Citizen Penny Whisenant spoke to the Trustees regarding her concerns about trash and drainage issues on her property which have resulted from the LBJ High construction. Sunday, Aug. 15, 2021, Blanco County residents sold a vehicle to a man who used a fake name and a fraudulent cashier’s check to make the purchase. It was confirmed Monday morning by the bank that the cashier’s check was fraudulent.  One of the sellers was mindful enough to note the license plate of the vehicle the buyer arrived in, information that was passed to the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office.
President Ray Bible called the Regular Business meeting of the JCVFD to order at 6:00 pm on August 11th. A talented crew of young Eagle athletes ran the table in the Centex Junior High 7-on-7 Football League, capping off their undefeated regular season with a 12-6 victory against Found Rock Ball Hawks Elite in the championship game Friday night at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex. Practices and league games kicked off in May, with the team practicing two hours twice a week in JC and traveling to Round Rock for Friday night games. The LBJ High School Lady Eagles defeated 6A LBJ Laredo in two sets to capture the Consolation crown in the Silver Bracket of the Wimberley Invitational Volleyball Tournament on Saturday. The JC squad went 3-3 for the weekend , with losses to TAPPS 4A John Paul Catholic, UIL 4A Fredericksburg and eventual tournament champion 4A Argyle.
The Friday morning scrimmage, the first of two permitted by the University Interscholastic League for football teams each season, proved to be a showcase for the defenses of the JC Eagles and the visiting Sonora Broncos. A last-minute schedule change gave JC fans the welcomed opportunity to cheer the 2021 Eagles from the home stands rather than making a road trip to Stockdale.
With sad, heavy hearts on Wednesday July 21, we lost our beloved patriarch, Dale Roberts. He was 87 and went peacefully at home to be with his Sweet Lord Jesus. Dale was born in Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma on Feb. 24, 1934. He married his love, Dorie, on Feb. 10, 1973. Having just celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary, their love for each other will continue in heaven. Dale lived in Long Beach for many years, working as a sales executive.
Robert Frank “Robbie” Penick Jr. of Johnson City died July 28, 2021. He was born Sept. 1, 1943 in Houston, to Robert F. Penick, Sr. and Joyce Adele Schmid Penick. Robbie proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy for eight years. He was also a very proud Texas A&M graduate. Robbie was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings, Kirby Penick, Donna Furber, Mark Penick and Stephen Penick.
