Veterans honored at annual ceremony held Saturday
Quilts of Valor awarded 36 veterans quilts at the Veterans Day Celebration on Saturday at the John L Kuykendall Event Center. In no particular order, they are: Rita Burnett-Baier, Herbert M Baugh, James C Beesley, Curtis Bell, Eugene A Beyer, Dan A Bishop, Hubert F Borne, Jimmy Brown, Ronald Burfiend, Richard L Castro, Michael R Fletcher, James L Fowler, David Joe Gilliland, Michael W Goetz, Elliot S Hallowell, Richard D Hinton, Lowell Ivey, Royce Johnson, Leland W Kiker, William T Klotz, Spencer Landes, Melvin A Lawson, Richard H McMahon, Dennis G Meyers, Jim Oestreich, Kenneth R Painter, Leslie R Potter, Advine R. On the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” of 1918. The date was declared a national holiday in many Allied nations, and coincides with Remembrance Day and Veterans Day, which are public holidays. Armistice Day as it was originally called, was a day to celebrate cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I.
